
Bickersteth, Fenty Go 3-0 vs. Ranked Foes in Singles at Harvard Chowderfest

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team sent four players to Harvard's Chowderfest, Friday through Sunday (Sept. 24-26), with Jacob Bickersteth and Andrew Fenty having standout performances.
The four Wolverines -- Bickerseth, Fenty, Nino Ehrenschneider and Patrick Maloney -- teamed up with six players from the University of California to form a 10-member squad to face defending national champion Florida, Arizona State and host Harvard.
The Maize and Blue got a hot start Fenty and Bickersteth took down ranked singles opponents from Florida on Friday (Sept. 24) after earning doubles victories over the Gators. Fenty, ranked No. 89, upset No. 14 Andy Andrade in straight sets 7-5, 6-1, before Bickersteth handled No. 59-ranked Josh Goodger 6-3, 6-4. Fenty and doubles partner Ehrenschneider started the afternoon with a 6-4 win over Ben Shelton and Will Grant, while Bickerseth and Maloney claimed a 6-3 win against Duarte Vale and Nate Bonetto.
Fenty and Ehrenschneider posted their second win on Saturday (Sept. 25), a 6-4 triumph over Harvard's Harris Walker and Henry Von Der Schulenurg, while Maloney and Bickersteth dispatched Ronan Jachuck and Steven Sun 6-3.
Changing up the doubles pairs on Sunday (Sept. 26), Fenty and Bickersteth topped George Stoupe and Christian Lerby of Arizona State 6-4, while Maloney and Ehrenschneider fell 6-4 to Murphy Cassone/Niclea Cigna.
Bickersteth went 2-1 in singles over the weekend as he concluded Chowderfest with another win over a ranked opponent, dropping No. 52-ranked Fabien Salle of Arizona State 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Ehrenschneider capped his weekend with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Mortiz Hoffman and No. 114-ranked Maloney swept Jonah Wilson 7-5, 6-2.
Next up for the Wolverines will be Mississippi State's Bulldog Invitational, Friday through Sunday (Oct. 1-3) in Starkville, Miss.
