Wolverine Bites
• Michigan is 4-0 in official dual meets this season, outscoring its opposition 133-21 with bonus points in 19 of its 34 match wins.
• The Wolverines are ranked nationally at all 10 weights, boasting eight wrestlers in the top 10 at their respective weights and four in the top five. Graduate student Nick Suriano debuted at No. 1 in the InterMat rankings at 125 pounds this week, while graduate student Myles Amine and senior Mason Parris list No. 2 at 184 pounds and heavyweight, respectively.
• Suriano went 2-0 in U-M's dual at Pittsburgh last Sunday (Jan. 9), earning an 18-7 major decision over Pitt's Gage Curry after rolling to a 19-2 technical fall in an extra match against Army's Jake Staud -- for a combined 37-9 point differential on the day. It was Suriano's Maize and Blue debut after joining the program as a second-semester transfer and his first collegiate matches since capturing the 133-pound NCAA title in 2019.
• Graduate student Logan Massa also made his official season debut against Pittsburgh and kicked off the dual with a first-period fall against Hunter Kernan (2:18) at 174 pounds. It was Massa's 100th career win at Michigan. He improved to 100-24 over six seasons and became the 38th Michigan wrestler to achieve the milestone.
• Two more Wolverines are bearing down on the 100-win milestone. Graduate student Stevan Micic owns a 94-15 record, while graduate transfer Patrick Brucki, who spent his first three seasons at Princeton, is now 92-18 in his collegiate career. Last season, Myles Amine became the 37th Wolverine wrestler to reach 100 wins and now boasts a 110-21 record.
• Brucki claimed the marquee match in the Pittsburgh dual, rallying to defeat eighth-ranked Nino Bonaccorsi 6-3 at 197 pounds. After giving up a first-period takedown, Brucki scored takedowns of his own late in the second and third periods. It was Brucki's first top-10 win of the season and bumped him up one spot to No. 8 in this week's updated InterMat rankings. Bonaccorsi was the NCAA runner-up at 197 pounds last season.
• Senior heavyweight Mason Parris improved to 6-0 on the season with a 14-4 major decision over Pitt's Jake Slinger in his season dual debut. Parris, who also captured a Cleveland State Open title last month, boasts bonus points in all six appearances with two pins, a technical fall and three major decisions. Over his career at Michigan, bonus points have accompanied 70 percent of his wins (78) and 61 percent of his total matches (90).
• Myles Amine also is 6-0 on the season with a pair of pins, including a quick 46-second fall against Pitt's Nicholas Meglino. He made his debut at the MatMen Open (Dec. 29-30), posting a 4-0 record en route to the 184-pound title and the tournament's outstanding wrestler honors. He defeated a familiar foe in NCAA champion and former Penn State standout Mark Hall, 4-2, in the final, scoring the deciding points off a last-second takedown in the first period. It was Amine's first win over Hall; he went 0-5 against the Nittany Lion while both were in college -- all five matches were decided by a single point.
