
Twenty-One Wolverines on NHL Opening Day Rosters

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan leads the nation with 21 players on 2022-23 NHL Opening Day rosters. Trailing Michigan with the most players in the NHL is Boston College at 20 and Boston University and Minnesota with 18.
Of Michigan's 21 players, 17 are on the active roster with four on injured reserve.
A total of 26 alumni saw action in the NHL during the 2021-22 season as three Wolverines (Andrew Cogliano, JT Compher, Jack Johnson) won the Stanley Cup as members of the Colorado Avalanche. In the last decade alone, 28 players have made their NHL debut.
Jacob Trouba begins his first season as captain for the New York Rangers, earning the designation during the offseason. Dylan Larkin captains the Detroit Red Wings, and Zach Werenski wears the "A" for Columbus.
