Michigan Rallies Past Eastern Michigan Behind 31 Points from Dickinson

DETROIT, Mich. -- With 31 points from Hunter Dickinson and Terrance Williams II's first career double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds), the No. 22-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team defeated Eastern Michigan 88-83 on Friday (Nov. 11) at Little Caesars Arena.
SUMMARY: In a back-and-forth Washtenaw County battle that featured 17 lead changes and 11 ties, Michigan (2-0) rallied late to defeat Eastern Michigan (1-1), propelled by Jaelin Llewellyn's driving layup and five late free throws to seal the victory.
SECOND HALF: Hot shooting from Eastern Michigan helped the Eagles to a 51-43 lead early in the second half. A 13-4 run keyed by seven points from Williams and a fast-break dunk from Kobe Bufkin allowed Michigan to take a 56-55 lead with 14 minutes to play. Eastern Michigan answered with two quick scores from Emoni Bates, but a layup and an and-one from Dickinson put the Wolverines back in front 61-60 with 12 minutes left in the game. The teams continued to exchange leads until an athletic finish and a free throw from Bufkin gave the Wolverines a 77-75 advantage with under four minutes to play. A quick six-point run behind four points from Llewellyn and a Dickinson layup put Michigan up 83-77 with two minutes left and the Wolverines maintained their lead the rest of the way, defeating EMU.
FIRST HALF: Eastern Michigan jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead, but an and-one layup from Dickinson followed by a steal and score from Bufkin helped the Wolverines tie the game at nine with 16 minutes to play in the half. Midway through the half, Michigan went on an 11-0 run behind six points on two threes from Williams to take a 20-14 lead. Michigan then went dry from the field over the next four minutes, and EMU regained a 24-21 lead after a 10-1 run. After a long stretch where the teams exchanged leads six times, EMU pulled away off threes from Bates and Noah Farrakhan. The Wolverines trailed the Eagles 45-42 at the half.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Michigan will take on Pittsburgh in the Legends Classic on Wednesday (Nov. 16) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The next night (Thursday, Nov. 17), the Wolverines will face either Arizona State or VCU.
NOTES
• Hunter Dickinson recorded the second 30-point game of his career, finishing with 31. He tied a career-high with 13 field goals made on 17 attempts.
• With seven rebounds, Dickinson is now one rebound away from U-M's 500-rebound club.
• Terrance Williams II finished with 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
• Dickinson (19) and Williams II (10) combined for 29 of U-M's 46 second-half points.
• Dug McDaniel posted a career- and team-best five assists.
• Tarris Reed Jr. scored his first Michigan field goal on a layup in the first half. He finished with four points.
