ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball program and head coach Mark Rosen announced Friday (Nov. 11) the signing of Morgan Burke and Valentina Vaulet to National Letters of Intent for the 2023-24 academic year.
"We are so excited about this recruiting class," said associate head coach Leisa Rosen. "It is a class we worked very hard to get and are thrilled to have them officially Michigan Wolverines. Both Morgan and Valentina will bring great playing experience, a very significant winning mentality, and an international flavor to our program. The entire class has been very successful in their high school and club programs and we can't wait to get them on campus next fall."
Morgan Burke
Burke hails from Omaha, Neb., making her the first player from the state of Nebraska to ever compete for the Michigan volleyball team. Burke was a pivotal part of the four-time state champion in Skutt Catholic high school. During her senior season, Burke recorded 505 kills, 66 aces, 36, blocks and 430 digs.
In 2022 alone, Burke was named to the Omaha World-Herald Super Six, ASICS All-Tournament team, state volleyball All-Tournament team, AVCA Best and Brightest first team, and most recently was named to the AVCA High School All-America third team. Burke currently holds the Skutt Catholic high school single-season kills record with 505.
"Morgan Burke is a very physical athlete from Omaha," said Leisa Rosen. "She is a multi-dimensional player -- in that she hit for her high school team that has won eight state titles in a row and she sets for her club team. She was just recently named an AVCA third-team high school All-American and is the first player from the state of Nebraska we have ever had in our program -- and that is exciting.
"She will add great experience and size to our setting position, as well as increase the depth and competitiveness in our gym. She is very athletic, strong and has a great mind when it comes to running an offense and knowing how to win. When we first had her on campus, we all knew Michigan was a great fit for her and her family. Morgan is a great addition to our Michigan volleyball family."
Valentina Vaulet
Vaulet comes to Ann Arbor by way of Cordoba, Argentina, where she has had a decorated career playing for the Argentina U-19 and U-21 National Teams. At the Pan American Games, Vaulet was named the best opposite and attacker helping her team to a silver medal. Vaulet will also come to Ann Arbor with heaps of international experience.
Vaulet was on the 2021 U-18 and U-21 Argentinean World Championship teams, 2022 Pan-American Games U-21 team, and in the 2022 South American Tournament. In 2021, Vaulet was the nation's third-best server and in 2020 she had a 49 percent hitting efficiency.
"Valentina Vaulet had the most unique recruiting experience ever," said Leisa Rosen. "She is an international player from Argentina, and we first started recruiting her through video only. It was a very unusual time in recruiting during COVID and that shut down a lot of avenues for us to see her live, so we relied a lot on video. After watching her for an extended period of time and getting to know her over many Zoom calls, she decided that Michigan was the perfect fit.
"She is a pin hitter with an incredible amount of Argentinian National Team experience. In 2022, Valentina was named the Best Scorer and the Best Opposite for the U-21 Pan-American Cup and helped lead her team to a silver medal. She is a very strong blocker/attacker that will bring an international style of play to Ann Arbor. We can't wait to get her in our gym next fall."
