WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --Â The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team claimed two silver medals on the final day of the 2022 Big Ten Championships on Saturday (Feb. 26) at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
The Wolverines finished third at the Big Ten Championships with 1,056 points. Indiana captured the team title with 1,499 points and Ohio State finished second with 1406 points.
Jake Mitchell started off the final day of the Big Ten Championships with a silver medal in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 14:44.22. Connor Hunt swam a personal best time of 15:06.40 and finished 12th.
In the 200-yard backstroke, three Wolverines scored to help Michigan to a third place finish. Jared Daigle finished seventh in the A-final with a time of 1:42.05, while Bora Unalmis finished 15th and Nadav Aaronson finished 24th.
Michigan sent four to the B-final in the 100-yard freestyle and the quartet collected big points. Cam Peel led the Wolverine field finishing 11th, while Bence Szabados finished 12th and James LeBuke and River Wright placed 15th and 16th, respectively.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, AJ Bornstein (11th), Mason Hunter(12th), and Will Chan (17th) all hit B-cut times.
Gal Groumi hit the trifecta and added a silver to his winnings in the 200-yard butterfly, having already captured gold and bronze earlier in the meet. Groumi finished with a new personal best time of 1:40.59, good for second, and Charlie Morici also hit a personal best for an 11th place finish with a time of 1:44.39.
In the final individual event of the championships, Ross Todd qualified for the A-final on the platform and scored 406.20 points to finish seventh. Cameron Gammage finished 19th with a score of 270.20.
The foursome of Peel, Szabados, Groumi and Mitchell capped off the Big Ten Championships for Michigan in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing fourth with an A-cut time of 2:50.33.
The 400 free relay team collected the only A-cut time of day, while 11 Wolverines posted 10 B-cut times.
