ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (7-4, 1-0 B1G) caps a three-match homestand on Sunday (March 20), hosting Purdue (8-4, 0-0 B1G) at 11 a.m. Admission is free to all tennis matches at the VTC.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan (7-4, 1-0 B1G) caps off a three-match homestand by hosting Purdue (8-4, 0-0 B1G) at the Varsity Tennis Center. It is Michigan's last home match until welcoming Nebraska on April 15, with U-M's next five matches slated for the road.
• U-M is 138-7 (.952) in Big Ten regular-season play under head coach Ronni Bernstein. She has led the Wolverines to nine of the last 11 Big Ten championship titles awarded (no title awarded in 2020), as well as three tournament crowns since taking over prior to the 2007-08 season.
• Michigan is back in the top 25 of the ITA computer rankings this week, coming in at No. 22 after a 4-1 win over Indiana (March 12) and a 5-2 victory over Columbia (March 13).
• Michigan has four ranked singles players in the latest ITA rankings in No. 13 Kari Miller, No. 61 Jaedan Brown, No .76 Andrea Cerdan and No. 93 Nicole Hammond. The next individual rankings are set to be released on March 22.
• Nicole Hammond is riding a six-match winning streak after getting a pair of wins against Indiana and Columbia. She is second on the team in dual-match wins with eight, while Jaedan Brown leads the way with 11. Brown and Hammond are the only Wolverines to finish all 11 of their singles matches in dual competition. Michigan is 44-18 in singles action during dual matches, good for a .710 winning percentage.
• Kari Miller was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her career after getting a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over No. 121 Akanksha Bahn of Columbia. She was also profiled this week in the Scholar Stories series.
• Michigan won its third match without the doubles point in a 5-2 win over Columbia, winning the final five singles matches on court to erase a 2-0 deficit. U-M is 4-0 when securing the match's first point and 3-4 without it.
• Michigan went 2-0 last season against Purdue, yielding just one point to the Boilers after a 7-0 win in West Lafayette and a 6-1 victory in Ann Arbor. U-M is 46-12 all-time against Purdue. The Boilermakers will kick off Big Ten action at Michigan State on Saturday (March 19) before coming to the Varsity Tennis Center for Sunday's match. Purdue has one ranked singles player in No. 104-ranked Csilla Fodor.
• Michigan head coach Ronni Bernstein, who is in her 15th season in Ann Arbor, became Michigan's all-time winningest coach earlier this season. Bernstein is up to 292 victories at Michigan following a 2-0 weekend. In addition, Bernstein can become the first coach to win 300 matches at Michigan with eight more wins this season.
• U-M embarks on a five-match road swing next, first traveling to Minnesota (Friday, March 25) and Wisconsin (Sunday, March 27).
