ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan field hockey program officially announced Tuesday (July 12) the addition of two newcomers -- freshman Zoë Bormet (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and graduate student Brynn Zorilla (Vista, Calif.) -- to the team's 2022 roster.
Bormet was a four-year starter in the midfield for local Pioneer High School. She garnered first team All-America honors from both the NFHCA and MAX Field Hockey last season and was named the 2021 Michigan High School Field Hockey Association (MHSFHA) Player of the Year. She was a three-time first team All-State honoree (2019, '20, '21) and a three-time MHSFHA Dream Team and All- Southeastern Conference selection.
Listed among Max Field Hockey's Top 50 Players in the Class of 2022, Bormet was twice named Pioneer's Team MVP and served as team captain as a senior (2021). A member of the National Honor Society and an Honor Roll student, Bormet is enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at Michigan.
Zorilla joins the Wolverine program as a graduate transfer after four seasons at California, where she started 62 of 64 games in the midfield and accumulated 10 goals, 12 assists and 32 points for the Golden Bears. A 2022 NFHCA All-West Region second team honoree, she was named to the America East All-Conference Team three times (2018, '19, '20) and earned a spot on the 2019 America East All-Tournament Team.
A four-time NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree, Zorilla was Cal's 2022 Anna Espenschade Award winner, given to a graduating female student-athlete for successful integration of academic and athletic pursuits. She will pursue a Master of Management degree through the Ross School of Business.
The Wolverines will kick off their 50th season of intercollegiate play with the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, taking on North Carolina and Wake Forest, on August 26-29 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
