
Michigan Takes Early Lead but Falls Late to Iowa State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team fell 3-2 to Iowa State on Thursday (Sept. 1) at U-M Soccer Stadium, with the Cyclones scoring the winning goal in the 81st minute.
Michigan (3-2-0) outshot Iowa State (1-2-1) 15-6, with junior Kacey Lawrence starting out the match with a goal in the foutth minute assisted by senior Lily Farkas.
The first half saw back-and-forth action, as Iowa State answered Michigan with two goals in the seventh and 11th minutes. The teams were even on shots at four apiece, and the Cyclones had five corners to the Wolverines' two.
U-M struck back coming into the second half, with freshman Jenna Lang scoring her first career goal in the 65th minute on a set piece from the left flank. Freshman Kali Burrell and Farkas paced the U-M attack, with four and three shots, respectively. The dup was responsible for seven of U-M's eleven combined shots coming in the second half.

Despite 11 second-half shots by the Wolverines, the match was decided in the 81st minute, as ISU's Jada Colbert put home an effort inside the U-M defensive third.
Chasing a goal with nine minutes to play, U-M had three opportunities that threatened the scoreline, but was unable to capitalize.
Next up, the Wolverines will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Sunday (Sept. 4) to take on Central Michigan at 3 p.m. from CMU Soccer Stadium. The match will be streamed live on Chippewas All-Access.
