• Michigan's Fantilli Wins Hobey Baker Award (4/7/23)

Adam Fantilli (April 13)
HCA National Rookie of the Month -- Adam Fantilli led the country in scoring in March/April with 15 points, scoring 10 goals and five assists in seven games, averaging 2.14 points per game and had at least one point in every game. He started the month with five goals and an assist in a sweep of Wisconsin in their Big Ten series. Fantilli had two goals and two assists in a 7-3 win over OSU in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal and had an assist in the Big Ten championship game. The Big Ten Most Outstanding Player, Fantilli set records for most points (11) and most goals (seven) in a single tournament. Fantilli followed that up with a goal and an assist versus Colgate in the Regional semifinal and scored the game-tying goal against Penn State to send the final into overtime. Against Quinnipiac, Fantilli scored his 30th goal of the season and on Friday (April 7), he captured the Hobey Baker Award. Fantilli was also a finalist for Player of the Month. » HCA Release
Brandon Naurato (March 28)
Spencer Penrose Award Finalist -- Interim head coach Brandon Naurato has been named a finalist for the 2023 Spencer Penrose Award, given annually to the CCM/AHCA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year. In his first season, Naurato guided the Wolverines to the Big Ten Tournament Championship and a spot in the Frozen Four. Michigan sports the best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 4.22 goals per game as the youngest program in the nation. The squad has been ranked in the top 10 nationally all season and set an NCAA record last week for most goals in an NCAA Regional game with 11, and set a program record with 17 sold-out home crowd this season. » AHCA Release
Luke Hughes, Adam Fantilli (March 8)
Big Ten Award Finalists -- Sophomore Luke Hughes was named a finalist for the Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year and Adam Fantilli is a finalist for Rookie of the Year. Fantilli leads the nation in scoring averaging 1.80 points per game with 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points in 31 games. With a +24 on-ice rating, Fantilli has two hat tricks and three game-winning goals. Despite missing four games in the B1G due to the World Juniors, Fantilli still led the league averaging 1.58 ppg with 30 points in 19 games. Hughes is second on the team in scoring with 40 points in 34 games. He ranks second nationally in points per game for a defenseman, averaging 1.17 ppg. Along with three game-winning goals, two in overtime, Hughes also collected a four-goal game this season. He adds 30 blocked shots and leads the B1G in points per game in league contests at 1.27 ppg (28 points in 22 games). » Big Ten Release
Luke Hughes (Feb. 14)
B1G First Star of the Week -- Luke Hughes led Michigan with a four-point weekend as the Wolverines swept Michigan State, creating some separation between at the top of standings as Michigan is now in sole possession of second place. Hughes scored the overtime game winner with 0.6 seconds left on the clock on Saturday (Feb. 11) to stretch Michigan's Duel in the D streak to six straight. He also added an assist on the team's first goal. On Friday night (Feb. 10) in East Lansing, Hughes had two assists in a 4-2 win. The defenseman also had four blocks in the series. » Big Ten Release
Adam Fantilli, Gavin Brindley (Feb. 7)
National Player of the Month -- Freshman forward Adam Fantilli led the nation in points per game during the month of January, averaging 2.33 points per game. In six games, he recorded five goals and nine assists for 14 points, all coming against top-10 opponents (No. 8 Ohio State, No. 2 Minnesota and No. 6 Penn State). Fantilli had points in all six games during the month. One week after becoming the only NCAA player to win a gold medal at the World Junior Championships, Fantilli kick-started his six-game streak. Against No. 8 Ohio State, he had three assists in a series split. At No. 2 Minnesota, Fantilli had three goals and one assist in another series split; and in a sweep of No. 6 Penn State, he had two goals and five assists. Fantilli did not take a single penalty during the month and won 56 faceoffs and blocked three shots while finishing +5. This is his second time being named Player of the Month, while also earning Rookie of the Month in November.
Big Ten Second Star of the Week -- Freshman forward Gavin Brindley was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after a five-point weekend as Michigan swept Wisconsin. He scored three goals and had two assists, including a career night on Friday (Feb. 3) with four points. He tallied back-to-back goals, including the game winner, in less than four minutes in the second period to lift Michigan to a 4-1 lead. Brindley also had the primary assist on his team's second and fifth goals. The following night (Saturday, feb. 4) he scored again to keep his seven-game point streak intact. Luke Hughes, Adam Fantilli (Jan. 31)
Big Ten First, Third Stars of the Week -- Sophomore defenseman Luke Hughes was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week, while rookie forward Adam Fantilli was named the Third Star of the Week.
Hughes had a seven-point week as Michigan swept No. 6 Penn State. He scored five goals and added two assists on 13 shots and blocked three shots. Hughes put up one the best individual efforts by a defenseman in program history on Saturday (Jan. 28), scoring four goals as Michigan trailed 3-0 and came back to win 5-4. It came a day after he had a three-point game with a goal and two helpers in a 7-3 victory. » Big Ten Release
Fantilli also had a seven-point weekend with two goals and five assists. On Friday (Jan. 27), he scored twice and added two assists in the Wolverines' 7-3 victory. On Saturday, he had three assists in a 5-4 come-from-behind win. » Big Ten Release
Adam Fantilli, Luke Hughes (Jan. 19)
Hobey Baker Award Nominees -- Freshman Adam Fantilli and sophomore Luke Hughes have been nominated for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top NCAA men's ice hockey player.
Fantilli is second in the nation in points per game at 1.61 ppg and leads the Wolverines in scoring with 29 points. He has points in 16 of his 18 games and is the only NCAA player to win a gold medal at the World Junior Championship as member of Team Canada.
A second team All-American, Hughes leads the Michigan blueliners in scoring with three goals and 17 assists in 22 games. In his 63-game career, he has 59 points. He was captain of Team USA that won the bronze medal at World Juniors. Hughes was a top-10 finalist last year when he led the nation's defensemen in scoring.

Erik Portillo (Dec. 13)
Big Ten Second Star of the Week -- Erik Portillo made 66 saves on 69 shots this weekend in a split with No. 12 Michigan State. He stopped 37 shots in a win on Saturday (Dec. 10), coming seconds from a shutout before a 6-on-4 goal with less than five seconds to play. He allowed one even-strength goal in the series and made 10+ saves in four of six periods played. Erik Portillo (Nov. 29)
Big Ten Second Star of the Week -- Erik Portillo made a season-high 39 saves in a 4-1 win over No. 9-ranked Harvard on saturday (Nov. 26). It marked his 60th career start, as he helped hand the Crimson its first loss of the season, while holding the nation's top scoring offense (4.14 gpg entering the weekend) to just one goal. » Big Ten Release
Dylan Duke (Nov. 22)
Big Ten Third Star of the Week -- Dylan Duke stepped up big for Michigan with a number of players out due to illness. He scored four of Michigan's five goals against No. 2 Minnesota, netting both of his team's goals on Thursday (Nov. 17) and two on Saturday (Nov. 18). The tallies marked his first multiple-goal games of his career. In 14 games, Duke has nine goals and six assists and is third on the team in scoring. » Big Ten Release
Mackie Samoskevich (Nov. 15)
Big Ten Second Star of the Week -- Mackie Samoskevich led Michigan in scoring this weekend with four points as the Wolverines defeated Notre Dame 5-1 and took a point in a 4-3 overtime loss on the road. On Friday, he scored the opening goal at 3:02 with a power-play tally and then had the primary assist on the team's fifth goal at the end of the second period. Adam Fantilli (Nov. 2)
Player and Rookie of the Month -- Adam Fantilli was named the Hockey Commissioners Association's October national Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month for October. He leads the nation in scoring as he begins his freshman campaign at Michigan. In eight games, he has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points. He has at least one point in every single game and recorded his first hat trick on Oct. 21 against Lake Superior State, followed by his first four-point game the next night. Luke Hughes (Nov. 1)
Big Ten First Star of the Week -- Luke Hughes scored the overtime game-winning goal and added two assists on Saturday night (Oct. 29) as Michigan recorded a sweep of No. 17 Western Michigan. It capped off a four-point weekend, as he paced the then-ranked No. 4-ranked Wolverines. On Friday (Oct. 28), he had one assist and finished a +3. » Big Ten Release
Adam Fantilli (Oct. 24)
Big Ten First Star of the Week -- Adam Fantilli led Michigan during its sweep of Lake Superior State on the road with seven points and factoring into seven of Michigan's 10 goals. He scored four goals and had three assists, while winning 61.4 percent of his draws (27-17) and finishing +5. On Friday (Oct. 21), he recorded his first career hat trick. He is the second-fastest rookie to a hat trick in proghram history, turning the trick in just his fifth game. On Saturday (Oct. 22), Fantilli collected his first four-point game with a goal and three assists. Erik Portillo (Oct. 18)
Big Ten Third Star of the Week -- Michigan netminder Erik Portillo claimed his first Big Ten weekly honor as the Third Star of the Week. Portillo made 57 saves in a weekend split against No. 9 Boston University. He stopped 26 shots in a 9-2 win in the series opener, followed by a season-best 31 saves on Sunday. » Big Ten Release
Mackie Samoskevich, Luke Hughes, Erik Portillo, Adam Fantilli (Sept. 21)
Preseason All-Big Ten -- Michigan sophomore defenseman Luke Hughes is a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Big Ten team, and is one of three Wolverines on the six-man first team.
