BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the No. 25-ranked Indiana on Sunday (Oct. 15) at Armstrong Stadium.
The opening 20 minutes proved to be a back-and-forth affair until Michigan (7-5-3, 3-3-1 Big Ten) started to assert itself.
In the 24th minute, senior Sammi Woods had the first of two quality chances in the half, pushing her right-footed chance high and wide of the frame of goal. Seven minutes later, junior Avery Kalitta played a low ball through the six that Woods pushed over the crossbar.
Michigan closed the half with another quality opportunity in the 41st minute, when freshman Lilley Bosley played a through ball from the middle of the pitch that found junior Kali Burrell, who blew past her mark on the right wing. Her one-time attempt was blocked by a sliding Hoosiers defender and was collected by the Indiana goalkeeper.
The script flipped the way of Indiana (10-1-4, 5-1-2 Big Ten) in the 61st minute, as a Wolverine defender was called for a handball in the box. The penalty was slotted home by IU's Piper Coffield and the Wolverines went down 1-0.
Chances of note in the second half came off the feet of sophomore Jenna Lang in the 71st minute from 24 yards out that was pushed over the bar, as well as a back post effort off a corner from junior Avery Peters that went high and wide.
In all, the Wolverines enjoyed six corners and a 10-7 shot advantage in the second 45, but the Maize and Blue was unable to find the breakthrough.
