ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing staff announced Thursday (Oct. 19) the addition of Francesca Raggi to the program as an assistant coach. Raggi will begin working with the program on Oct. 23.
"We are thrilled and excited to welcome Fran to our staff," said head coach Mark Rothstein. She is an accomplished competitor who knows how to get the best out of a boat and we believe she will make an excellent addition to our team. We know she will make Michigan Rowing better. Welcome, Fran!"
"After a year away from rowing, I am excited to get back around the sport and to be around that environment again," said Raggi. Being part of a team with strong women who are all working together towards a larger goal is something I really enjoy, and I can't wait to be a part of it again."
A native of Winter Park, Fla., Raggi rowed at the University of Texas, where she was named 2022 CRCA Athlete of the Year, a two-time first-team All-American (2021, '22) and a 2019 CRCA second-team All-American. She helped the Longhorns to two team NCAA Championships and one second-place finish in her three years of competition (2019, '21-22). Raggi was a three-year varsity eight competitor who won two NCAA gold medals and one silver. At the conference level, she helped the Longhorns capture three Big 12 team championships (2019, '21, '22) while rowing in three Big 12 1V8 gold-medal-winning boats. She was the 2022 Big 12 Rower of the Year.
She earned her degree from Texas in sustainability studies and geography and added a master's degree in finance, accruing Academic All-Big 12 in all three seasons. She was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member for two years (2020-21). Raggi spent time following her graduation as a financial analyst.
