ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team closed out the dual-meet portion of its 2022-23 season in dominant fashion, rolling to a 30-9 win over in-state foe Central Michigan on Sunday evening (Feb. 19) in front of 2,341 fans at Crisler Center.
Michigan won seven matches and earned five bonus wins, including back-to-back pins at 133 and 141 pounds and three major decisions. Four Wolverine seniors claimed wins in their final collegiate dual.
Jack Medley and Mason Parris claimed major decisions at the bookends at 125 pounds and heavyweight to go out winners at home. Medley, ranked 17th nationally, earned a 10-2 win over Sean Spidle with four takedowns -- two in the third period -- and 2:27 in riding-time advantage.
Parris, the nation's No. 1 heavyweight, boasted nine takedowns, using a variety of singles, doubles, carries and go behinds, and rode for 3:58 to earn a dominant 20-7 major decision over Bryan Caves. Parris improved to 25-0 on the season with his 17th bonus win. He went 50-4 in duals over his five season in the Wolverine starting lineup.
Dylan Ragusin and Cole Mattin scored consecutive first-period falls at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively. It was the second in a row -- and fourth on the season -- for 11th-ranked Ragusin, who scored three takedowns and locked up a cradle on the last one to pin Vince Perez at the 2:02 mark. Mattin, ranked 28th and wrestling for the first time in four weeks, pinned Jimmy Nugent with an arm and a half at 2:47 -- his third pin this season in his final home appearance.
Will Lewan, ranked 14th at 157 pounds, built up a sizable first-period lead en route to an 8-3 decision over 28th-ranked Corbyn Munson. Lewan went feet-to-back off a double for six points in the opening frame and added another takedown off a single leg and scramble in the third to ice it.
Cameron Amine, like Mattin, returned to the Wolverine lineup for the first time in four weeks and earned a 3-1 decision over Tracy Hubbard at 165 pounds. Knotted up late, fourth-ranked Amine finished on a big double-leg takedown and rode out the remainder of the match.
Matt Finesilver, ranked eighth at 184 pounds, used a big third period to beat Ben Cushman 10-0 in his final collegiate dual. Finesilver scored on a first-period single leg then turned Cushman twice -- with a two-point cradle and four-point turk -- to break it open in the third. He rode out the final period to accumulate 2:31 in riding time. Finesilver hit the 100-win milestone with the performance, improving to 100-34 in his career -- his last 20 wins coming this season at Michigan.
Michigan (11-4), the defending Big Ten Conference champion, will host the 2023 Big Ten Championships on Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5, at Crisler Center. Tickets are still available through the U-M Ticket Office.
