DULUTH, Ga. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team used five event victories from senior Sierra Brooks along with four winners on floor exercise to take home a 197-825-196.900 win on Friday (March 10) over No. 18 Georgia at Gas South Arena to close out its regular season.
Brooks won a piece of every event, taking the outright vault (9.950), uneven bars (9.875) and all-around (39.675) titles while sharing both balance beam (9.925) and floor (9.925) wins. The all-arounder shared the floor title with teammates Abby Heiskell, Naomi Morrison and Gabby Wilson as the group all scored matching 9.925s in the third rotation of the evening.
Freshman Kaylen Morgan made her debut on bars for Michigan and Brooks led U-M with a 9.875 in the first rotation as the Wolverines trailed 49.300-49.250 heading to vault. Michigan took the tough scoring from uneven bars and used it to deliver a 49.550 on the vault, with Brooks scoring a team-best 9.950 to win the event and both Morrison and Heiskell earning 9.925s. U-M went into the third rotation with a 98.800-98.450 advantage over the Bulldogs.
The floor squad did work as it counted four routines of 9.925 from Heiskell, Morrison, Brooks and Wilson to take a 148.375-147.550 lead with one rotation to go. Michigan drove home the win in the final rotation, with Wilson and Wojcik earning 9.900s and Brooks recording her fourth individual title with a 9.925. U-M earned a 49.450 in the final rotation to close out its final regular season meet of the season and earn a decisive victory over Georgia.
The Wolverines will seek their 27th Big Ten Championships next Saturday (March 18) at 4:30 p.m. CST at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa. Both sessions of the Big Ten Championships will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
