INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- University of Michigan senior/junior Cole Mattin earned one of four selections to the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships at 141 pounds when the 47 at-large bids were announced Tuesday (March 7). Mattin's selection gives the Wolverines eight NCAA qualifiers.
Amine enters his first NCAA Championships with a 14-9 record and owns five wins against the field -- Ohio State's Dylan D'Emilio, Campbell's Shannon Hanna, North Carolina's Lachlan McNeil, Oklahoma's Mosha Schwatz and Wisconsin's Joey Zargo. He was ranked No. 26 in the coaches ranking and No. 15 in the RPI entering the Big Ten Championships.
Joining Mattin at the NCAA Championships will be the Wolverines' seven automatic qualifiers, who all placed among their weight classes' allocated qualifying number at the Big Ten Championships at Crisler Center last weekend: Jack Medley (125 pounds), Dylan Ragusin (133), Chance Lamer (157), Will Lewan (157), Cameron Amine (165), Matt Finesilver (184) and Mason Parris (heavyweight).
Like Mattin, Medley and Lamer will make their NCAA debuts next week. Conversely, Finesilver and Parris are set to compete in their fourth NCAA Championships.
The NCAA will release seeds and full brackets at 8 p.m. on Wednesday (March 8) as part of a selection show on NCAA.com. The NCAA Championships are slated for Thursday through Saturday, March 16-18, at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
