INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan wrestling program's eight NCAA Championships qualifiers earned their seeds for the 2023 NCAA Championships, notably fifth-year senior Mason Parris, who earned the No. 1 seed at heavyweight, when the NCAA released its full tournament brackets Wednesday evening (March 8).
Parris is the fourth Wolverine to earn a No. 1 NCAA seed over the last three seasons. He owns a perfect 28-0 record on the season and has defeated ranked opponents in each of his last three matches, including a 5-3 decision over Penn State's No. 2 Greg Kerkvliet in the Big Ten heavyweight final last weekend. Parris is a three-time NCAA All-American, reaching the NCAA final in 2021. He will face the winner of the pigtail between Princeton's Travis Stefanik and Minnesota's Garrett Joles the first round.
Graduate student Matt Finesilver earned the No. 8 seed at 184 pounds. Now a four-time NCAA qualifier, Finesilver enters the NCAA Championships with a 23-6 record after taking third place at the Big Ten Championships. He will face Drexel's Brian Bonino in the first round.
Fifth-year senior Will Lewan, a 2022 NCAA All-American and three-time qualifier, is the No. 9 seed at 157 pounds after placing third at the Big Ten Championships. He is 21-6 on the season and will wrestle Appalachian State's Tommy Askey in the first round.
Senior/junior Cameron Amine earned the No. 11 seed at 165 pounds for the second time in his career. A two-time All-American, Amine placed seventh from the 11th seed as a freshman in 2021 before claiming fourth last season. Amine, who has battled a couple injuries this year, is 12-3 and took fourth at Big Tens last weekend. He will wrestle South Dakota State's Tanner Cook in the first round.
Junior/sophomore Dylan Ragusin garnered the No. 12 seed at 133 pounds. A three-time NCAA qualifier, Ragusin is 17-8 this season and coming off a fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. He will face Navy's Brendan Ferretti in the first round. Graduate student Jack Medley is the No. 16 seed at 125 pounds. Medley is a two-time qualifier but was not able to compete in 2020 due to the cancelation of the NCAA tournament. He is 21-11 this season and placed eighth at Big Tens. He will wrestle Army's Ethan Berginc in the first round.
Senior Cole Mattin and sophomore/freshman Chance Lamer round out Michigan's qualifiers with the No. 23 seeds at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Like Medley, both will make their NCAA Championships debut next week. Mattin, who earned one of his weight's four at-large selections, is 14-9 this season and will open against North Carolina's Lachlan McNeil -- who he defeated in the UNC dual in November -- in the first round. Lamer is 12-7 this season and took seventh place at Big Tens. He'll wrestle Stanford's Jaden Abas in the first round.
The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, March 16-18, at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
