MANHEIM, Pa. -- Six members of the University of Michigan wrestling team were named to the Division I Scholar All-America Team, as announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) last Friday (April 21). The NWCA's individual list included 291 total wrestlers from 73 institutions.
Senior/junior Cameron Amine, graduate student Matt Finesilver, fifth-year senior Will Lewan, senior Cole Mattin, graduate student Jack Medley and fifth-year senior Mason Parris all were named to the individual team. It is the second-most NWCA honorees in program history -- after seven earned the distinction last season -- while U-M was one of 15 schools with six or more honorees.
Amine, a sport management major, was named a Scholar All-American for the third consecutive year at Michigan, while Lewan, Medley and Parris are all repeat selections. Finesilver is also a three-time honoree, previously earning the distinction while at Duke. A social work graduate student, he earned U-M's team award this spring for the top graduate school GPA.
Parris, a two-time academic honoree in civil engineering, was named the 2023 Dan Hodge Trophy winner as the nation's most dominant wrestler after posting a 33-0 record this season en route to the NCAA heavyweight title.
The Wolverines wrapped the 2022-23 season with an 11-4 dual-meet record and placed sixth at the NCAA Championships -- the program's seventh straight top-10 finish -- with three All-Americans.
