
Michigan Comes Up Short in Back-and-Forth Contest vs. Oklahoma State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After tying thr game three times, a two-run Oklahoma State seventh inning was the difference as the University of Michigan baseball team fell 5-3 to the Cowboys in a back-and-forth battle on Saturday (April 29) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
Connor O'Halloran took the ball for the Wolverines (21-19) and was strong early, tossing a scoreless first inning which included two strikeouts and no hits.U-M went scoreless in the first, despite a single from Ted Burton -- hos first of three hits on the day.
Oklahoma State (29-13) opened the game's scoring in the the second inning on back-to-back doubles with one out. Michigan responded in its half of the frame after a Tito Flores solo home run to left field.
The Cowboys regained the lead in the third as a leadoff walk came around to score after a stolen base amd a pair of groundouts. U-M responded in the bottom of the third inning, when Gabe Sotres singled to left-center, Cody Jefferis reached on an error and Sotres advanced to third on a wild pitch to put runners on the corners with no outs. Burton singled through the right side to score Sotres, but Jefferis was stopped at third where he was stranded with the game tied at 2. O'Halloran added his fourth strikeout of the day in a 1-2-3 fourth inning, but the Wolverines also went down in order.
The Cowboys took the lead in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly, but Michigan drew even at 3 courtesy of a Burton solo shot to left.
The deciding seventh inning started with O'Halloran fanning the first two Oklahoma State batters, his seventh and eighth of the game, but could not collect the third out. The next batter was hit by a pitch and scored on a double. A single then scored the runner from second for a 5-3 advantage before Mitch Voit took the mound and got the final out.
U-M will finish its three-game set against Oklahoma State on Sunday (April 30) at 11 a.m. at Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
