
Foster, Hancock Lead Way for Distance Crew on Day One of Duke Invitational

DURHAM N.C. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field distance squad competed on the first day of the Duke Invitational on Friday (April 7) at Morris Williams Stadium, highlighted by a top-three finish from Nick Foster and career-best time from Anthony Hancock.
The Wolverines took part in the 1,500-meter run, steeplechase and 5,000-meter run, with the highest finish of the day coming from Foster. The senior finished second in the 1,500 Invite race with a time of 3:42:11. He was joined in the event by Arun Jha (16th, 3:45.67), Riley Flemington (24th, 3:47.47) and Oli Raimond (27th, 3:48.60).
Anthony Hancock led a contingent of five Wolverines running the early section of the 1,500 and finished seventh in a career-best time of 4:50.47. The mark bested his previous time by nearly a full second. Thomas Shilgalis (11th, 3:51.21), Michael Hancock (21st, 3:53.60), Ian Hill (22nd, 3:53.65), and Myles Liss-Riordan (51st, 3:59.12) rounded out the Wolverines in the race.
Michigan had two runners make their collegiate debut in the steeplechase. Colton Yesney ran 9:10.54 to finish fifth, and John Florence ran to a 14th-place finish in 9:38.65. Jack Kelke finished off the day for the Wolverines in the 5,000 meters, running 14:41.67 to finish 33rd overall.
Michigan will continue action Saturday (April 8) at 10 a.m. with day two of Duke Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium.
