ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Kim Barnes Arico announced the addition of Taylor Williams to the program on Friday (April 7). Williams will join the Michigan program as a graduate transfer after playing three seasons at Western Michigan.
"We are really excited to add Taylor to our program," Barnes Arico said. "It's great to have another Michigan kid, who has done exceptionally well both in the classroom and on the court at Western Michigan, come to Ann Arbor. She is a great kid, an incredibly hard worker. She has tremendous length and such a high motor to the ball. She brings so much versatility to the court with her ability to play multiple positions and impact both sides of the ball."
For her career in Kalamazoo, Williams appeared in 77 games and started 74 of them over three seasons of action. She reached the 1,000-point mark in her final game as a Bronco, averaging 13.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for her career. She tallied 27 double-doubles over her three seasons, leading WMU in rebounding each season. Williams averaged double-figure scoring in each of her three seasons, while grabbing 698 rebounds and blocking 94 shots.
In her final season at WMU in 2022-23 as a redshirt junior, Williams averaged a career-best 14.7 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting from the floor. She ranked third in the MAC in both rebounding (9.0 rpg) and blocked shots (1.6 bpg), playing 23.7 minutes per game. Williams tallied 10 double-doubles and seven 20-point games this past season. She earned All-MAC honorable mention for the second time in her career and a spot on the All-MAC Defensive Team.
After not seeing action during the 2019-20 season, Williams earned a spot on the 2021 All-MAC Freshman Team and All-MAC honorable mention. She was one of three players nationally with a 30-point, 20-rebound game that season after she went for 30 points and 21 rebounds against Akron. She earned Academic All-MAC honors three times as a criminal justice major
Williams hails from New Baltimore, Mich., and attended Dakota High School, where she earned all-state honors from BCAM as a junior and senior (2018, 2019). Her mother, Nina, played basketball at Detroit Mercy.
