ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan wrestling graduate Matt Finesilver was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Division I Men's At-Large team, the organization announced Wednesday (June 21). Finesilver was named to the third team.
Finesilver is the fourth Wolverine wrestler to garner collegiate athletics' top academic honor, joining Eric Tannenbaum (2006-08), Adam Coon (2018) and Myles Amine (2021-22).
Finesilver, who joined U-M as a graduate transfer last summer, earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and a graduate degree from the Master of Management Studies program at Duke before enrolling in Michigan's School of Social Work in 2022-23. He is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American over his collegiate career and earned Academic All-Big Ten selection last season after three previous ACC All-Academic Team honors.
A native of Greenwood Village, Colo., Finesilver posted a 106-37 career record, including a 26-8 mark for the Wolverines last season. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier at 174 and 184 pounds and reached the NCAA Round of 12 in March. He placed top four at the ACC Championships all three competitive seasons at Duke, including a runner-up finish in 2019, and took third place at the 2023 Big Ten Championships. Finesilver earned bonus points nearly half of his collegiate wins with 11 falls, 15 technical falls and 25 major decisions.
Finesilver will continue his post-collegiate freestyle career with Michigan's Cliff Keen Wrestling Club and represent Israel in international competition.
