LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the fourth straight year, it was announced on Thursday (July 13).
Michigan received the award for the first time following the 2019-20 season. The award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale. A total of 202 Division I programs earned the award this year.
"What we do in the classroom is just as important as what we do on the court," said head coach Erin Virtue. "The University of Michigan is a world-class University, and our student-athletes know that when they come here. The Michigan degree is such a difference-maker and we want to make sure our student-athletes are getting the most out of their education here to prepare them for life after volleyball."
The Wolverines placed 14 student-athletes on the Fall Academic All-Big Ten list, including Haley Hallgren and Allison Jacobs, who maintained perfect GPAs. Eight members of the team also received Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors for recording a GPA above 3.7 for the school year this spring. Â
