ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan wrestling head coach Sean Bormet announced Tuesday (Sept. 5) the addition of recent graduate and two-time NCAA qualifier Jack Medley to the Wolverines' staff as director of operations.
Among Medley's responsibilities, he will assist the coaching staff in the management of day-to-day operations, assist with administrative duties and organization of recruiting activities, coordinate team travel logistics and develop and execute plan for increased and year-round community outreach and grass-roots marketing.
"Jack Medley is the type of individual you want around your program," said Bormet, "so I am thrilled that we've been able to add him to our staff in this new role. Jack was one of the most dedicated, selfless and hard-working student-athletes I've ever had the privilege to coach, and I know he will continue to have a tremendous impact on Michigan wrestling beyond his competitive days."
"I am incredibly excited to be joining the Michigan staff," said Medley, "and I want to thank Sean, Josh, KJ, and Dave for this opportunity. They are all world-class individuals who are doing something really special here at Michigan. I have a ton of love for this program and really enjoyed my time here as a student-athlete. I'm excited to hit the ground running with Team 102. Go Blue!"
Medley, a native of Chesterfield, Mich., spent the last six years with the Wolverine program and much of the last four seasons in the starting lineup at 125 and 133 pounds. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Medley posted fourth place at the 2020 Big Ten Championships before COVID-19 canceled the NCAA Tournament -- he was named a NWCA Honorable Mention All-American -- and earned top-five finishes at the prestigious Midlands Championships and Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. He accumulated 93 career wins at Michigan, including a 32-14 mark in duals.
Off the mat, Medley earned a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2022 and added a master's of management degree last spring. He was a five-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American and twice named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. He served as a Michigan team captain in 2022-23 and earned numerous team awards over his tenure, including the program's Steve Fraser Award for mental toughness and Pete Cornell Award for leadership.
