
Michigan Falls to Rival No. 14 Ohio State in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team battled all afternoon but ultimately came up short against No. 14 Ohio State on Saturday (Jan. 20), falling 163-137 to the Buckeyes inside McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
U-M started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of Jack Wilkening, Brendan Fitxpatrick, Tyler Ray and Bence Szabados posted a time of 1:26.08 to take the top spot.
Eitan Ben-Shitrit and Gal Groumi finished second and third in the 200-yard freestyle, logging times of 1:35.72 and 1:36.81, respectively. Groumi added a second-place result in the 100 free later in the meet, posting a time of 44.14 seconds. Wilkening and Jacque Wenger followed up with top-three finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 47.01 and 48.37, respectively.
Ansel Froass put together a solid performance in the breastroke events, winning the 100- and 200-yard races with times of 54.74 and 1:58.13, respectively.
Butterfly specialist Ray added another win to his strong 2023-24 season, posting a 100-fly time of 46.58 to take the top spot. Groumi chipped in a mark of 46.86 to capture second place.
Ben-Shitrit closed out his meet with a time of 1:46.33 in the 200-yard individual medley to finish second, while Froass took third with a mark of 1:48.09.
In diving, Cameron Gammage won the three-meter dive with a score of 385.95 and logged a total of 378.30 in the one-meter dive to finish second.
The Wolverines will return to Canham Natatorium on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18, when they host a First Chance Meet. Times for both days are to be announced.
