ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan hockey team officially welcomed 10-year-old Conner Adcock of Flat Rock, Mich., to its team in partnership with Team Impact, the program announced on Wednesday (Nov. 6).
Conner signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Wolverines in a ceremony during a team meeting at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. He was presented with his jersey bearing his favorite number, 5, and will have his own stall in the locker room next to Michigan's No. 5 Tyler Duke.
"Being a part of Michigan Hockey makes me feel cool and happy cause I love Michigan and hockey," Conner said.
Conner was joined by his parents Melissa and Steve at his signing day.
"Conner struggles with his disability (cerebral Palsy) every day," Melissa said. "Not having the ability to do everyday normal things that he sees his peers do is hard. (Walking, playing at recess, etc.). Conner is also an only child. Being a part of Team Impact and Michigan Hockey is giving him a bunch of big brothers that he doesn't have. Big brothers to help give him a sense of confidence, guidance and companionship."
While the entire Michigan team is involved, Jacob Truscott, Philippe Lapointe, Luca Fantilli, Christian Humphreys, Andrew Albano, Ethan Edwards, Josh Orrico, Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen are designated as Team Impact student-athlete leaders for Conner and his family.
The Michigan Hockey team will host a special Team Impact Awareness Game on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. when it takes on Western Michigan at Yost Ice Arena.
