ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Former University of Michigan men's soccer student-athlete Jason Bucknor was selected by the LA Galaxy with the 20th pick in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft on Friday (Dec. 20).
Bucknor becomes the first Wolverine drafted since 2020 when Jack Hallahan and Andrew Verdi were selected. Bucknor is the fourth U-M player to be taken in the first round and first since Francis Atuahene was picked fourth overall by FC Dallas in 2018.
Bucknor finished his collegiate career with a flourish, leading the Wolverines with six goals in 2024. He manned multiple positions for the Maize and Blue this past season, including defender and forward. Bucknor notched his first career brace in a 3-3 tie against UCLA on Sept. 21 and scored the game-winner against No. 2-seeded Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on Nov. 7.
Bucknor garnered multiple accolades in his final year in Ann Arbor, including being named to the Big Ten's Player to Watch list and to TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week on Sept. 23. Off the field, Bucknor earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition three times in his career.
