
Kim's Career-Best Event Leads Wolverines to Second Straight Top-Five Finish

» With a final-round 282 (-6), Michigan tied for fifth with an 852 (-12) 54-hole total at Houston's Border Olympics played at the Laredo Country Club. U-M has opened the spring season with back-to-back top-five finishes.
» After three straight sub-par tallies, Jude Kim recorded a career-low 207 (-9) 54-hole total and posted his second career top-five finish as he closed fourth to lead the Maize and Blue.

LAREDO, Texas -- After a career performance and fourth-place finish from senior Jude Kim and four total starters finishing below-par, the University of Michigan men's golf team posted an 852 (-12) 54-hole total Tuesday (Feb. 20) to tie for fifth at Houston's Border Olympics played at the Laredo Country Club. The top-five finish is the second straight to start the spring and sixth overall in seven total events.
Securing a starting spot during a pre-tournament qualifier, Kim opened with a clean-sheet first-round total of 68 (-4) after 14 pars and four birdies. Making his way to the second 18 of the day, he closed with a 70 (-2) to position himself tied for fourth after 36 holes.
With a closing 69 (-3) in the final round, he maintained his top five spot to finish fourth with a career-low 207 (-9) total -- topping his prior best by four shots (211, -3; 2022 Little Rock Invitational). With his second career sub-par 54-hole total, he was able to secure the second career top-five finish at a 54-hole event.
Behind Kim, U-M had three additional sub-par finishes as senior Will Anderson tied for 24th with his 214 (-2; 773-71-70), redshirt-junior Ben Hoagland tied for 26th at 215 (-1, 73-73-69) and junior Hunter Thomson tied for 31st at even-par 216 (71-71-74). Junior Yuqi Liu rounded out U-M's starting five tying for 71st at 224 (74-73-77). Playing as an individual for the second straight spring event, redshirt-junior Jack O'Donnell used his 223 (74-75-74) to tie for 59th.
With three more sub-par team totals, the Wolverines have posted six straight to start the spring. Overall, the Wolverines have produced 17 of 21 team tallies under-par. As a team at the Laredo Country Club, the Maize and Blue recorded 55 total birdies and three eagles during the two-day event. Kim led the Wolverines with 14 birdies and 35 pars.
The Wolverines continue their spring heading out for a third straight February event, Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 26-27) as Georgia Southern hosts the Invitational at the Ford. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Ford Field and River Club.
