» Using three straight sub-par team tallies, the Michigan men's golf team posted an 856 (-8) 54-hole total to finish fourth at the inaugural Invitational at the Ford at the Ford Field and River Club.
» With three more sub-par team totals, U-M has tallied nine straight in the red to start the spring season. Overall, U-M has 20-of-24 team rounds under par this season.
» Hunter Thomson's 210 (-6) total paced the Wolverines, tying for eighth. He now has six sub-par events out of eight this season, with six top-10 finishes.

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. -- Three more sub-par team totals and three Wolverines among the top-25 guided the University of Michigan men's golf team to a fourth-place finish on Tuesday (Feb. 27) after an 856 (-8) 54-hole total at Georgia Southern's inaugural Invitational at the Ford played at the Ford Field and River Club.
The Wolverines opened play Monday posting a first-round 287 (-1) total as redshirt-junior Ben Hoagland's 69 (-3) and junior Hunter Thomson's 70 (-2) paced the Maize and Blue. Heading straight into the day's second 18, play was halted and suspended due to darkness with the Wolverines hovering in sixth of the eight-team field.
Heading back out Tuesday morning, U-M etched a second 287 (-1) on the scoreboard as Thomson's 69 (-3) and senior Jude Kim's even-par 72 led the way. After a second-round 77, senior Will Anderson began U-M's final-round rally, firing a team-event best 67 (-5), while Thomson and Hoagland added 71s (-1) to help the Wolverines to a closing 282 (-6) and fourth-place finish with an 856 (-8) total.
With a 210 (-6) total, Thomson led the Wolverines with his sixth top-10 finish as he tied for eighth. With his three straight sub-par rounds, he now has 17 of 24 in the red this season, and leads U-M with a 69.58 scoring average. Not far behind, Hoagland produced his fifth sub-par 54-hole total with a 213 (-3) as he tied for 14th.
Along with Hoagland, freshman Jason Gordon made his spring debut playing as an individual. He also tied for 14th with a career-low 213 (-3) total. He posted rounds of 71 (-1) and 69 (-3) around his second-round 73 (+1) for his second career top-15 finish. Anderson rounded out U-M's starting five tying for 25th at 217 (+1).
The Wolverines will have the rest of spring break to train before getting back to competition at the Louisiana Classics, Monday and Tuesday (March 11-12) in Lafayette, La. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Oakbourne Country Club. Last season, the Maize and Blue posted a ninth-place team finish with its 907 total.
