
U-M Collects Two Bronze Medals, Sits Second at B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team collected two bronze medals on the opening day of the Big Ten Championships at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Wednesday (Feb. 28). The Wolverines accumulated 108 points to sit second behind Indiana (128 points).
The 200-yard medley relay team powered through the pool, finishing third to open the Big Ten Championships. The quartet of Brendan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Ray, Bence Szabados and Jack Wilkening combined to post an NCAA "A" cut time of 1:23.33, finishing less than half a second behind second-place finisher Penn State.
Following the exhibition team diving event, the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Eitan Ben-Shitrit, Gal Groumi, Ozan Kalafat and Logan Zucker closed out the opening night with a third-place finish, logging a mark of 6:13.64 -- meeting the NCAA qualifying standards.
The Big Ten Championships will continue on Thursday (Feb. 29) with the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 500-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley relay and one-meter diving. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
