Ann Arbor, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's volleyball head coach Erin Virtue announced today (Feb. 5) the incoming freshman class for the upcoming fall season. With every position accounted for, this 2024 class ranks 12th nationally by PrepDig and includes Ella Demetrician, Camille Edwards, Cymarah Gordon, Jenna Hanes, Trixie McMillin and Ellie White.Â
"This incoming class is sure to make a big splash in Ann Arbor," said Virtue. "Our staff is excited to welcome Ella, Camille, Cymarah, Jenna, Trixie, and Ellie to our program. A class of six, this group has tremendous potential to elevate the Michigan Volleyball program over the course of their four years. They bring in multiple state championships, club championships, national championships and player of the year awards... the list of accomplishments goes on and on. The elite mindsets that these six bring in will be a catalyst for them as they take the next step in their careers. Not only are they all tremendously talented, but as our staff has gotten to know this group, they are remarkable teammates and people. The Michigan Volleyball fan base is in for a treat as this class will be fun to watch compete in the fall."Â
Ella Demetrician | OH |Â Appleton, Wis.Â
After graduating from Appleton North High School, Demetrician will come to Ann Arbor as a Wisconsin State Champion, 2023 AVCA Girls High School first-team All-American, first-team Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association All-state recipient and as her high school's all-time kills leader. She totaled 1,340 kills during her high school career and continued that success through her time with FC Elite Volleyball Club. At 6-2, Demetrician will be joining the Michigan Volleyball Team as an outside hitter.Â
Virtue on Demetrician: "A dynamic outside attacker who also excels in serve reception, Ella will make an impact on Michigan Volleyball in many ways. She is a steady competitor and a great teammate. Ella embodies a student-athlete, excelling both in the classroom and on the court. I am looking forward to seeing her thrive in the maize and blue."Â
Camille Edwards | S |Â Dallas, Texas
A 5-11 setter from Prestonwood Christian Academy High School, Edwards is coming off of back-to-back TAPPS 6A State Championships where she earned All-District Team recognition all four years. As a freshman she was named District Setter of the Year and followed it up in her sophomore and senior years with the same award. Edwards is also a two-time All-State recipient. On top of breaking her school's assist record, Edwards led her Texas Advantage Volleyball Club team (TAV) to three bronze medals at Girls Junior National Championships.Â
Virtue on Edwards: "Camille is no stranger to championships. In both club and high school, Camille has been part of winning programs her entire career and I am thrilled for Camille to bring her experience to Ann Arbor. Those that have worked with Camille have raved about her work ethic and her willingness to continue to learn and grow as a setter and as a leader."Â
Cymarah Gordon | OH |Â Irvine, Calif.
Hailing from Mater Dei High School, Gordon is a 6-0 opposite hitter who led her team to a 2023 CIF Open Division State Championship, defeating fellow Michigan commits Jenna Hanes and Trixie McMillin in the process, and tallied over 600 kills during her time with the Monarchs. Mater Dei also capped their remarkable year being named National Champions by MaxPreps Sports. Additionally, her club team, Momentous Volleyball Club, earned a gold medal at the SCVA 17U Championships.
Virtue on Gordon: "We are so thrilled to bring Cymarah to Michigan. She will undoubtedly make a huge impact on our program with her physical dominance on offense and defense. Cymarah continues to impress with her rapid improvement and growth since we have known her. She has been a huge part of one of the most successful high school programs in the country, and we are excited for her to bring that competitive experience to Michigan."Â
Jenna Hanes | MB |Â San Diego, Calif.
Attending Cathedral Catholic High School, Hanes helped her team to a 2022 CIF Open Division State Championship her junior year. In her senior season, she was named 2023 All-CIF Player of the Year after playing Michigan commit Cymarah Gordon in the state finals. At 6-3, Hanes plays for Wave Volleyball as a middle blocker and helped guide her San Diego-based team to a 9-1 showing in the 17 Open division at the 2023 Girls Junior National Championships.
Virtue on Hanes: Jenna has made a huge impact in every program she has been part of, and she will have the ability to make a big splash at Michigan as well. She will bring in experience on both sides of the ball as a dynamic attacker and a force as a blocker. Jenna's coaches have all loved working with her, and our Michigan staff is pumped to get to work with Jenna over the next four years.Â
Trixie McMillin | L | Manhattan Beach, Calif.
As a libero, McMillin plays for City Volleyball Club in Los Angeles, Calif. and helped her team qualify for the 17 Open division of the 2023 Girls Junior National Championships. She will be graduating from Mira Costa High School after a successful senior season where she made it to the CIF Open Division State Semi-Finals. Mira Costa also won the Bay League in undefeated fashion.
Virtue on McMillin: "Trixie will undoubtedly be a fan favorite to watch. She is fast, explosive, and covers a ton of ground on defense. She is a wonderful teammate and will quickly become one of the hardest workers in our program. We are thrilled to welcome Trixie to Michigan and can't wait to see her development over the course of her time in Ann Arbor."Â
Ellie White | S | Orland Park, Ill.
A versatile player from Mother McAuley High School, White will come to Ann Arbor as a two-time Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year and 2022 and 2023 State Champion. Although she led her team as an outside hitter, tallying 1,923 kills and over 1,000 digs in her high school career, White will be attending Michigan as a setter. At 5-11, White also plays for 1st Alliance Volleyball Club and earned a bronze medal at the most recent Girls Junior National Championships in 17 Open.Â
Virtue on White: "There are very few athletes that get to this point in their careers and can impact their teams in as many ways as Ellie can. She has played various positions (OH, S, OPP), at a very successful level, throughout her high school career. I love that she was given a chance to develop every area of her game as she will come to Michigan as an incredibly well-rounded player. Ellie's mindset about her position has always been a 'whatever is best for my team' mentality. This level of selflessness is also tremendously unique in elite athletes. We are thrilled to bring Ellie to Michigan and can't wait to see how she develops over her career."
