
Seven Wolverines Earn Top-10 Seeds for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Seven University of Michigan wrestlers earned top-10 seeds for the NCAA Championships, including four in the top eight at their respective weight classes, the NCAA announced, along with full brackets, on Wednesday evening (March 13). The Wolverines will enter the NCAA tournament with nine qualifiers.
Graduate student Shane Griffith was the Wolverines' highest seed with the No. 4 spot at 174 pounds. Griffith, the 2021 NCAA 165-pound champion and a three-time NCAA All-American, is 14-3 this season and took second place at the Big Ten Championships after medical forfeiting out of the finals. He will face North Carolina State's Alex Faison in the first round.
Senior/junior Dylan Ragusin earned the No. 5 seed at 133 pounds. Now a four-time NCAA qualifier, Ragusin enters the NCAA Championships with a 24-2 record after taking runner-up honors at the Big Ten Championships. He will face Penn's Michael Colaiocco in the first round.
Graduate student Austin Gomez is the No. 6 seed at 149 pounds. A 2022 NCAA All-American after taking fourth place, Gomez is 9-2 this season after joining the Wolverines' lineup for the second semester. He took second place at the Big Ten Championships, a week after qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Pan American Qualifier. He will wrestle Harvard's Jack Crook in the first round.
Freshman Sergio Lemley will be the No. 8 seed for his NCAA Championships debut at 141 pounds. Lemley is 18-7 on the season and placed fourth last weekend at the Big Ten Championships. He will wrestle Illinois' Danny Pucino in the first round.
Graduate student Will Lewan, a two-time NCAA All-American and four-time qualifier, is the No. 9 seed at 157 pounds -- for the second straight year -- after placing second at the Big Ten Championships. Lewan, who placed fifth at NCAAs in 2022 and eighth last season, is 12-7 on the season and will wrestle Michigan State's Chase Saldate in the first round.
Fifth-year senior Cameron Amine and graduate student Lucas Davison both earned No. 10 seeds at 165 pounds and heavyweight, respectively. A three-time All-American, Amine has placed fourth at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons. He is 14-7 and took fourth at Big Tens last weekend. He will wrestle NC State's Derek Fields in the first round. Davison owns NCAA Championships finishes of fifth (2023) and sixth (2022) is 18-4 this season and took third place at Big Tens. He will wrestle Army West Point's Lucas Stoddard in the first round.
Senior/junior Jaden Bullock earned the No. 12 seed at 184 pounds for his NCAA Championships debut. Bullock, who missed nearly all of last season with injury, broke through with an 18-10 record and a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. He will face Rutgers' Brian Soldano in the first round.
Graduate student Michael DeAugustino rounds out Michigan's qualifiers with the No. 18 seed at 125 pounds. An NCAA All-American who placed fourth in 2021, DeAugustino is 11-6 on the season and took sixth at last weekend's Big Ten Championships. He will wrestle Nebraska's Caleb Smith in the first round.
The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, March 21-23, at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
