WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- University of Michigan men's golfer Hunter Thomson posted a 218 (+2) 54-hole total today (Wednesday, May 15) to tie for 27th at the NCAA West Lafayette Regional at Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, Kampen Course. With Thomson not advancing to the NCAA Finals, the season is complete for the Maize and Blue.
Playing in his first NCAA postseason event, the junior became the first Wolverine in six years to earn an invitation to an NCAA regional. Staying in Big Ten country, he traveled to Purdue for the West Lafayette regional as one of 10 individuals.
With 15 pars and a birdie in Monday's (May 13) opening 18 holes, Thomson's 73 (+1) positioned him tied for 23rd. With 12 more pars and birdieing four of his first eight holes in Tuesday's (May 14) second round, he recorded his 22nd sub-par round of the season with a 71 (-1) to remain among the top 25 as he sat tie for 22nd. With three birdies eliminating three bogeys, Thomson used a closing 74 (+2) to etch a 218 (+2) 54-hole total and tie for 27th among the 75-golfer field.
Finishing his third season with a 70.56 scoring average, Thomson set the U-M record for single-season scoring -- topping Kyle Mueller's mark of 70.76 (2017-18).
