
Thirteen Wolverines Selected for NCAA East Preliminary Round

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Thirteen Wolverines will represent the University of Michigan men's track and field team at the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary Round, the association announced Thursday (May 16).
The Michigan student-athletes selected to compete are: Berachiah Ajala (triple jump), Dubem Amene (400-meter dash), Tom Brady (10,000-meter run), Miles Brown (800-meter run), Zane Forist (discus throw), Nick Foster (1,500-meter run), Caleb Jarema (3,000-meter steeplechase), Henry Johnson (800-meter run), Trent McFarland (1,500-meter run), Jozef Meyers (3,000-meter steeplechase), Jake Wall (long jump), Tianhao Wei (triple jump) and Eli Winter (hammer throw).
For each individual event contested at each of the first-round sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event, the top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.?Combined events (heptathlon and decathlon) are not contested at the first-round sites. For combined events, the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the NCAA Championships.
Twelve competitors from each individual event and twelve teams from each relay event advance from each first-round site.?The 2024?NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships will be hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field.
Michigan is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, playing host to the meet for the first time since 1988.
Amene earned his first Big Ten outdoor title, taking the 400-meter dash crown with a time of 45.92 seconds, 0.35 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
U-M finished 1-2-7 in the 1,500-meter run for 20 points, with McFarland (3:34.59) winning the title and Foster (3:43.64) finishing second. Johnson earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 3:46.61. Brady earned his second straight 10,000-meter run title, running 29:19.27 to finish just 0.03 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, and Jarema took home bronze in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (3:45.42), finishing 0.09 seconds behind the runner-up.
The NCAA East Preliminary Round will take place Wednesday through Saturday, May 22-25, hosted by Kentucky at the UK Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.
