ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Pitcher Jacob Denner, outfielder Stephen Hrustich and utility player Mitch Voit of the University of Michigan baseball team were named first team All-Big Ten, while four others garnered conference recognition, it was announced Tuesday evening (May 21).
U-M's three first-team selections led the conference and tied the program's highest total, also three, in 2019.
In addition, second baseman Mack Timbrook and pitcher Kurt Barr were named to the third team. Collin Priest was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team at designated hitter, while senior Dylan Stanton was selected as Michigan's sportsmanship honoree.
Voit is U-M's only repeat selection, having been named to the all-freshman team last season. He is hitting .280 with a team-leading 61 hits and 20 doubles, the latter of which ranks second in the Big Ten, and has hit 11 home runs, tied for second on the team. Voit also has five wins and 41 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched.
Denner leads the Maize and Blue in appearances with 26, going 8-4 with four saves on the season in 76 innings pitched. He has struck out a team-leading 57 batters and pitched a complete game in a season-opening weekend win over Western Michigan. In conference games, Denner is 5-2 and second in earned-run average (2.09) among pitchers with at least 30 innings.
Hrustich adds first-team All-Big Ten to his resume after earning third-team honors last season at Northwestern. He is second on the team in batting average (.301) and has a team-leading 15 home runs, good for third in the conference. He also has a .451 on-base percentage and a team-leading 50 walks, the second highest single-season total in program history.
Barr took a big step up in his second season, leading the team in ERA at 3.52. He has nine starts on the season and 19 appearances in a team-leading 79.1 innings. In conference play, Barr has a 3.64 ERA -- sixth among pitchers with at least 30 innings. Barr earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors on March 18 after tossing 11 innings over two games and holding opponents to just one run. He also threw a complete game against Minnesota (April 13) and a combined shutout of Ohio State (April 19) with Denner.
Timbrook broke out in Big Ten play, hitting .349 with a .424 on-base percentage. On the season, he leads the team with a .306 batting average and has scored 38 runs, which is third on the team, and added 16 doubles, three home runs and 29 RBI. He also was part of one of the top double-play combinations in the nation turning 40 on the season. He earned second-team All-MAC honors last season at Kent State.
Priest has a .288 batting average in conference play with a team-leading eight home runs, tied for fourth in the Big Ten and is just one of two freshmen with eight or more. Overall, he is hitting .284 with 11 home runs.
Stanton was chosen as a team captain this season and is batting .293 in Big Ten play with 16 runs.
