ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Kim Barnes Arico announced Thursday (May 30) the addition of Brooke Q. Daniels to the University of Michigan women's basketball program. Daniels will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing for two seasons at Oakland.
"It's always great to add another Michigan native to our program," Barnes Arico said. "Brooke is a dynamic guard who can do so many things for us. She was one of the top rebounders in her league from the guard position last year and has the ability to score, as well as defend at a high level. She brings so much energy to the court, is an extremely hard worker and a great teammate. We are excited to see her in the maize and blue."
Daniels spent the last two seasons at Oakland, most recently leading the Golden Grizzlies in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (6.6 rpg) and assists (3.0 apg) as a sophomore. She scored in double figures in all but three of her 29 games started, going for a career-best 27 points against Green Bay (Jan. 20). Daniels was named to the Horizon League second team and grabbed a spot on the all-defensive team after leading the conference in steals (2.3 per game).
As a freshman in 2022-23, she was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year after averaging 12.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. She appeared in all 30 of Oakland's games, winning freshman of the week honors from the Horizon League six times. Daniels recorded four double-doubles on the season, highlighted by a 20-point, 18-rebound and seven-assist performance against Northern Kentucky.
A 2022 graduate of L'Anse Creuse North, Daniels was ranked the No. 5 recruit in the state of Michigan for the class of 2022. She holds school career records in points (1,609), assists (374) and steals (485), while helping the Crusaders to their first regional championship since 1980 during the 2020-21 season. Daniels earned first-team all-state honors by the Detroit News, the Detroit Free Press and the Associated Press in 2022.
