Big Ten Award Finalists (March 13) -- Sophomores Gavin Brindley and Seamus Casey were named finalists for Big Ten Awards, Brindley for Player of the Year and Casey for Defensive Player of the Year. Casey is tied as the nation's leading scoring defensemen with 43 points and is the only Big Ten defenseman with 40+ points. He has 11 more assists than the next best defenseman in the league with a total of 36 helpers and adds seven goals. Brindley leads the league in scoring with a league-high 23 goals and adds 27 assists for 50 points. He is tied as the conference's leading scorer, along with his teammate Rutger McGroarty. Brindley has points in 26 games and 14 multiple-point games, including three four-point games. Big Ten Third Star of the Week -- Seamus Casey scored the overtime game-winning goal on Saturday (March 2) as Michigan defeated No. 8 Minnesota, 6-5. It was Casey's second goal of the game and his first career game winner and he also added one assist. Casey opened the scoring at 8:01 with a power-play goal and had the primary assist on Michigan's fourth goal before delivering the game winner. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten First Star of the Week (Feb. 27) – Jake Barczewski went 2-0 this weekend as Michigan swept Notre Dame to secure home ice for the Big Ten Tournament. He recorded a 22-save shutout on Friday (Feb. 23), including a stop on a penalty shot, and followed up with 28 saves on Saturday (Feb. 24). Through 120 minutes, Barczewski allowed just one goal for a 0.50 goals-against average and a .980 save percentage. » Big Ten Release
HCA Player of the Month (Feb. 6) -- Rutger McGroarty led the nation in scoring during the month of the January, getting things going just a week after returning with a gold medal as captain of USA World Junior team. In six games, McGroarty totaled 16 points, averaging 2.67 points per game, and had at points in every single game. He scored three goals and had 13 assists, while finishing a +9 with four blocks. He was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Jan. 24 after an eight-point weekend against rival Michigan State. He had five assists in a sweep of Stonehill, scored three goals and five assists in a split with then No. 7 Michigan State and had three assists in a split with No. 3 Wisconsin.McGroarty has helped Michigan's power play convert at 55.6 percent this month. Big Ten Third Star of the Week (Feb. 5) -- Goaltender Jake Barczewski went 2-0 with a sweep on the road at Ohio State, helping Michigan to a crucial six points in the B1G. He finished the weekend with 66 saves and allowed just three goals for a .957 save percentage and a 1.50 GAA in addition to one assist. On Friday, Barczewski made 37 saves in a 4-1 win and followed up with 29 in another 4-1 victory. He also had the secondary assist on Michigan's fourth goal on Saturday -- the first goalie assist for the Wolverines since Feb. 4, 2023, when Erik Portillo had one in a 7-4 win over Wisconsin. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten First Star of the Week (Jan. 30) -- Frank Nazar III led the Big Ten in scoring this week with five points in two games. He scored three goals, one of which was a game-winner, and added two assists while going 54.3 percent from the faceoff dot as Michigan split with No. 3 Wisconsin. On Friday night (Jan. 26), he had a three-point night, scoring twice -- including the game winner -- and adding an assist in a 5-1 win over the Badgers. On Saturday (Jan. 27), he had two points, scoring the team's fifth goal early in the third to help Michigan take a 5-4 lead and assisted on the team's second goal. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten First Star of the Week (Jan. 23) -- Rutger McGroarty led the nation in scoring this week with an eight-point weekend in Michigan's split with No. 7 Michigan State. He scored three goals and had five assists as he averaged 19:01 time on ice. On Friday (Jan. 19), he led the Wolverines with one goal and three assists in a 7-1 road win, then on Saturday (Jan. 20), he had another four-point game with two goals and two assists -- including back-to-back tallies in the second period -- to stake U-M to a 4-1 lead. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten First Star of the Week (Jan. 16) -- Gavin Brindley led the nation in scoring last week after returning from Sweden with a World Junior Championship gold medal. He scored five goals and added two assists for seven points as Michigan swept Stonehill. On Friday (Jan. 12), he had his first career four-goal game. Big Ten Second Star of the Week (Nov. 28) -- Jake Barczewski earned his 50th career win in a standout performance at St. Cloud on Friday (Nov. 24). He stopped all 30 shots he faced in his first shutout for Michigan, and seventh of his career. It marked Michigan's first clean sheet since March 5, 2022. HCA National Player of the Month (Nov. 1) -- Rutger McGroarty was named the Hockey Commissioners Association co-Player of the Month for the opening month of the 2023-24 season. McGroarty led the nation in scoring during October, finishing with 15 points in eight games, scoring five goals and 10 assists. He had at least one point in seven games, including the first five of the season, that extended his point-scoring streak to a career-high 13 games. McGroarty's best game was a four-point outing against Providence on Oct. 8. In the eight games he played, he had multiple points in five. Big Ten Second Star of the Week (Oct. 31) -- T.J. Hughes led the Wolverines in a sweep of Lindenwood last weekend, finishing the weekend with eight points (three goals, five assists) in two games. He had a career night on Saturday (Oct. 28) with a five-point game with two goals and three assists. It came a day after he scored a goal and collected two assists. Big Ten Second Star of the Week (Oct. 24) -- Jake Barczewski went 1-0-1 in his first Big Ten series when the Wolverines hosted Ohio State on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 20-21). He made 32 saves in a 7-1 victory on Friday (Oct. 20) and stopped 35 shots in a 2-2 draw on Saturday night (Oct. 21), which marked his 100th career start. Big Ten First Star of the Week (Oct. 10) -- Rutger McGroarty paced the Wolverines with a five-point weekend as Michigan split its season-opening series with No. 18 Providence. Preseason All-Big Ten (Sept. 25) -- Five Wolverines were named Preseason All-Big Ten with Gavin Brindley and Seamus Casey earning first-team honors. Rutger McGroarty and Frank Nazar III were named to the second team and Dylan Duke was an honorable mention selection. Michigan was picked to finish second in the Big Ten for the regular season, where it has finished the last two seasons before winning the Big Ten Tournament Championship.
