
Juda, Richard Earn Bronze in Olympics Men's Gymnastics Team Finals

PARIS, France -- Led by University of Michigan men's gymnasts Paul Juda and Fred Richard, Team USA earned its first team medal in 16 years at the 2024 Olympic Games on Monday (July 29).
The pair competed in four events each, with Juda on floor exercise (14.200), pommel horse (13.900), vault (14.666) and horizontal bar (13.366) and Richard earning scores on floor (14.466), still rings (14.033), horizontal bar (14.833) and parallel bars (14.566).
Team USA was the leader through the first two rotations (86.764), holding a 0.666-point advantage over China (86.098) and sat in second after the third rotation (130.163) -- 1.201 points behind China (131.163), with Richard's parallel bar score of 14.566 leading the rotation.
Heading into the final rotation, Team USA went to the pommel horse sitting in third place (215.327). Juda opened the rotation strong with a score of 13.900, while Stephen Nedoroscik put up a score of 14.866 in the anchor spot to secure bronze for the U.S.
Japan claimed gold (259.594) while China took silver (259.062) and Team USA finished with a score of 257.793.
After finishing fifth in 2012, 2016 and 2020, Monday's bronze medal is the first for the United States since a bronze-medal finish in 2008 and its fifth overall.
Juda and Richard will conclude their Olympic competition on Wednesday (July 31) at 11:30 a.m. in the all-around finals. Richard will begin on the pommel horse and Juda on still rings.
