The United States opened group play and its Paris Paralympics appearance in wheelchair rugby with a 51-48 win over rival Canada at Champ-de-Mars Arena. Neither team led by more than four points at any point in the game and were knotted up at 31-31 midway through the third quarter before USA took the lead for good. Chuck Aoki, the community access navigator with U-M's Adaptive Sports & Fitness program, led Team USA with 21 tries and added a pair of steals. USA's Sarah Adam, who posted six tries, made history as the first woman to play for the U.S. at the Games.
