U-M Cheer Team
The University of Michigan COED Cheer Team is composed of student-athletes from across the nation. Athletes must have a strong athletic foundation, a competitive drive, and the ability to contribute positively to a team environment.
Current Michigan students from the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses are welcome to try out.
Our program boasts a rich history of national championships. To date, we hold 12 national titles. We will continue that tradition by competing again in 2026.
Although Cheer is not an NCAA-sanctioned sport, it is one of the 31 varsity teams at the University of Michigan. With that comes many of the privileges, including:
* Strength and Conditioning in Athletic Department facilities with S&C staff
* Nike training gear
* Priority registration
* Varsity letterman status
We are ambassadors for the University of Michigan, cheering at home basketball and football games. We also make appearances at other University and campus events such as pep rallies, Alumni tailgates, Homecoming, and Parent and Family Weekend.
Our student-athletes devote approximately 12 hours/week to practices and games. Like all student-athletes at the University of Michigan, members must maintain high academic standards and be full-time students.
The Michigan Cheer Team practices 3-4 times per week, and lifts twice a week with a dedicated strength and conditioning coach.
Being a member of this team is about a holistic experience. We strive to develop well-rounded athletes who will excel on the field, in the classroom, and in life beyond college.
This is a full-year commitment.
