PARIS, France -- University of Michigan alumnus Charlie Swanson earned silver Sunday (Aug. 4) for his preliminary swim in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay.
Swanson helped Team USA advance to the final by logging a time of 59.73 in the breaststroke leg during Saturday's (Aug. 3) semifinal. In the final, the quartet of Ryan Murphy (backstroke), Nic Fink (breaststroke), Caeleb Dressel (butterfly) and Hunter Armstrong (freestyle) were in a tight battle with China and France -- with the Chinese ultimately prevailing.
The silver marks Swanson's second medal in Paris and the second medal of his career. With this medal, Michigan men's swimming and diving now boasts 81 total medals, including 16 silver medals. Swanson adds another piece of hardware to a decorated swimming career that includes five Big Ten championships and eight All-America citations. Â
