Myles Amine lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to Greece's Dauren Kurugliev in the 86kg bronze-medal match at Champ de Mars Arena to take fifth place in his second Olympic appearance. Amine controlled the action early but could not finish on a pair of low single-leg shots. Kurugliev scored a takedown on the shot clock with a minute left in the first period and added two exposure points out of a scramble off another Amine shot in the second. Amine scored four points in the final 10 seconds of the match, scoring a takedown then a stepout and caution-and-one off a single-leg attack on the restart. Trailing on criteria, Amine's corner challenged in search of a takedown but lost, giving Kurugliev an additional point.
Mason Parris dropped his first bout 10-5 at 125kg freestyle to Mongolia's Lkhagvagerel Munkhtur and was eliminated when Munkhtur fell in his subsequent match. Parris led 3-1 early in the second period on a single-leg takedown and stepout -- that likely should have been called a takedown. Munkhtur took the lead on a four-pointer on the edge and tacked on a lost-challenge point, then added a stepout and another takedown to surge to a seven-point lead. Parris scored on a single leg in the final :45 but could not score again.

Myles Amine posted a 2-1 record to advance to an 86kg bronze-medal match at Champ de Mars Arena. Amine fell to Iran's Hassan Yazdani 7-1 in the semifinals, scoring the first point before allowing four stepouts and a single-leg takedown and leg turk. Yazdani was the 2016 Olympic gold medalist at 86kg the Rio Games and is now a three-time Olympic finalist.
Amine won comfortably, 7-4, in his first bout then took a 16-14 barn burner against Azerbaijan's Osman Nurmagomedov in the quarterfinals. Amine struck early in that bout, scoring on a single leg in the opening 15 seconds, but Nurmagomedov took an 8-5 lead into the break after scoring on a low-single takedown and two leg laces. Amine scored nine points in the opening minute of the second period, on an early go behind then a low single with two laces of his own. Nurmagomedov narrowed the gap with a pair stepouts and a takedown before Amine all but iced it with another single-leg takedown in the final 30 seconds.
Amine will face the winner of the repechage match between Greece's Dauren Kurugliev and Australia's Jayden Lawrence in his bronze-medal match Friday (Aug.9). Amine previously captured 86kg bronze at the Tokyo Games.

Making his Olympic debut, Adam Coon dropped his opening-round bout at 130kg Greco-Roman to Iran's Amin Mirzazadeh 3-1 at Champ de Mars Arena.
