
Ten Wolverines Garner NFCA Scholar-Athlete Accolades

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Ten members of the University of Michigan softball team were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2023-24 academic year, the organization announced on Tuesday (Aug. 6).
The scholar-athlete honors recognize the academic achievements of softball teams across the NFCA's membership categories. NCAA Division I boasted 2,573 total student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2023-24. Michigan's honorees include Emerson Aiken, Ryleigh Carricaburu, Ava Costales, Lauren Derkowski, Hannah George, Jessica LeBeau, Ella McVey, Kaylee America Rodriguez, Ella Stephenson and Keke Tholl.
Aiken and McVey, who are majoring in biology, health, & society and communication and media, respectively, were both named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete for the third time in their careers.
Fourteen Wolverines, nearly all eligible student-athlete on the team, previously were honored this year with Academic All-Big Ten distinction, recognizing a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, while six garnered Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades for a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year.
