
World Juniors Update: Hage, Ivankovic Win Bronze

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Six members of the University of Michigan ice hockey team are competing at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, with four skating for Team USA and two representing Hockey Canada.
Asher Barnett, Will Horcoff, Cole McKinney and Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen suit up for the Red, White and Blue, while Michael Hage and Jack Ivankovic will compete for Team Canada.
The World Junior Championship will be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

Jan.5: Hage, Ivankovic Win Bronze
Michale Hage continued to rack up the points with four assists as Canada defeated Finland 6-3 to earn a bronze medal. Hage finishes as not only Canada's leading scorer but the tournament's leading scorer with 15 points. His 15 points is the most for a Michigan Wolverine at a World Juniors, as he passes Mike Cammalleri's 11 points from 2002. His 15 points ranks ninth all time in Canada history - tying the likes of John Tavares and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Jack Ivankovic did not play in the bronze medal game.

Jan.4: Canada Upended in Semifinals, Plays for Bronze
Michale Hage had one assist and Jack Ivankovic made 31 saves but it wasn't enough as Czechia defeated Canada late in the game for the second straight World Juniors. Canada will play for the bronze medal on Monday (Jan. 5) against Finland. Hage hit three posts during the game and had two chances at a penalty shot after he was tripped by the goaltender on the first one, and then wasn't able to bury on his second chance. Hage has 10 points in the tournament heading into the medal round.Â
Jan. 2:Â Ivankovic Records Win as Canada Advances
Jack Ivankovic established himself as the starting Canadian netminder after a 7-1 win over Slovakia Friday in the quarterfinal round. Ivankovic stopped 21 of 22 shots from the Slovaks. Michael Hage added another assist to his resume and now has nine points in five games. The Canadians face Czechia in the late game of the semifinal round on Sunday.
USA was eliminated after a 4-3 overtime loss to Finland after winning back-to-back gold medals.
Dec. 31: Hage Nets Two Assists as Canada Wins Group B
The US suffered its first defeat of the tournament, falling 6-3 to Sweden to finish second in Group B. Asher Barnett skated in 16:18, Will Horcoff had one shot in 13:29, Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen had ice time of 10:13 and Cole McKinney skated in 6:57. USA will take on Finland in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m., on Friday (Jan. 2).
Michal Hage continued his point streak with two more assists in a 7-4 win over Finland. He took four shots, finished a +1 and won seven draws in 13:05. Jack Ivankovic was the backup netminder. Winning group B, Canada will face Slovakia on Friday (Jan. 2) at 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 29: US and Canada Remain Unbeaten
Michael Hage picked up two assists as Canada cruised to a 9-1 win over Denmark on Monday (Dec. 29). Hage had two shots on goal and skated in 16:07, finishing a +2. Jack Ivankovic was the back-up netminder.
The US rallied to defeat Slovakia 6-5 in the earlier game. Cole McKinney had one shot, one six draws and skated in 10:26. Will Horcoff took one shot in 12:00, Defensemen Asher Barnett finished a +1 in 14:00 and Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen played in 5:02.
Dec. 27: Hage Plays Hero for Canada
Michael Hage scored the overtime game-winning goal as Canada defeated Latvia 2-1 on Saturday (Dec. 27). Hage led the team in shots with six and skated in 16:54. Jack Ivankovic earned the win, stopping 26 of 27 shots he faced.
Will Horcoff and Cole McKinney each earned assists as Team USA topped Switzerland 2-1. Horcoff set up the game's first goal while McKinney had the primary on the game-winning goal in the second period. McKinney went 8-for-11 in face offs and Asher Barnett had 15:42 in ice time.
Dec. 26: Horcoff, Hage Score as USA and Canada Win Openers
Will Horcoff scored as the US defeated Germany 6-3 in the opener on Friday (Dec. 26). Horcoff made it 3-0 with a goal in the first period and finished with five shots on goal, a +1 and totaled 16:00 of ice time. Cole McKinney went 7-6 in face offs, had four shots and skated 11:41. Defensemen Asher Barnett totaled 11:34 of ice time and Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen recorded 6:46.
Michael Hage had a two-point game with a goal and an assist as Canada defeated Czechia 7-5. Centering the top line, Hage had the secondary assist on the Canadians' first goal and scored the second. He finished with three shots, a +2 and with 11:08 of ice time. Jack Ivankovic did not play, but is expected to start Saturday's game.
Dec. 24: All Four Wolverines Make Final USA Roster
Asher Barnett, Will Horcoff, Cole McKinney and Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen all earned spots on the final 25-man roster for Team USA, as announced by USA Hockey on Wednesday (Dec. 24). The squad will hold one final practice on Christmas Day before opening the tournament against Germany on Friday, Dec. 26.
The United States defeated Germany 8-0 in pre-tournament action on Dec. 21 and also posted a 3-1 win over Finland.
Dec. 8: Hage, Ivankovic Named to Hockey Canada Roster
Michael Hage and Jack Ivankovic were named to Hockey Canada's World Junior Championship training camp roster, it was announced by Hockey Canada on Monday (Dec. 8).
The 27-man roster reported to training camp at the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario, from Dec. 12-22.
Thirteen Wolverines have captured medals with Team Canada at the World Junior Championship, most recently Adam Fantilli, who earned gold in 2023.
This marks the third time Michigan has had multiple players represent Hockey Canada in the same tournament, joining Owen Power and Kent Johnson in 2022, and Jason Botterill and Robb Gordon in 1996.
Dec. 1: Four Wolverines Named to USA Hockey Camp Roster
Asher Barnett, Will Horcoff, Cole McKinney and Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen were named to the 31-man USA Hockey training camp roster and reported on Dec. 15. The final 25-player roster was announced on Dec. 24.
The United States enters the tournament as the two-time defending gold medalist and has recorded 16 podium finishes all time, including seven gold medals, two silver medals and seven bronze medals.
Michigan players have earned 29 medals with Team USA at the World Junior Championship since 1980, including nine in the last three years.
