DALLAS -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 14 Texas A&M on Saturday (Feb. 15) in the back draw of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on SMU's campus.
Highlighting the match for the Wolverines was Mert Oral and Bjorn Swenson winning their doubles match, defeating Ritesh Patil and Tiago Pires, 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. Breaks proved to be the difference maker as the Aggies won at No. 1 and 2 off breaks after being tied at 5-5.
Oral kept up his winning ways in singles, taking his first set at No. 6. The Aggies grabbed the other five first sets and continued to exploit the Wolverines with breaks (20-9). Oral's match with Patil was full of service breaks as he took a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 6-3 in the second. The third was yet to get underway before the match was called.
Texas A&M made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 before a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5. No. 71-ranked JC Roddick clinched the match taking matching 6-3 sets off Will Cooksey.
Michigan will play its last match of the tournament on Sunday (Feb. 16) against host SMU. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. CT.
