ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Seven University of Michigan women's lacrosse student-athletes were named to All-Big Ten teams as part of eight total Wolverines honored by the Big Ten on Tuesday afternoon (April 22), the conference announced.
Graduate student Ava Class, seniors Jill Smith and Erin O'Grady and junior Grace Callahan were named to the first-team All-Big Ten, while Emma Burke, Kaylee Dyer and Julia Schwabe earned second-team honors. Burke and Caroline Byrd notched All-Freshman team accolades.
The eight honorees are the most in program history, surpassing the previous program-best of seven in 2024.
Smith, a 2025 Tewaaraton Award nominee, earns first-team honors for the third straight season after leading the Wolverine offense with 62 points. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native has 44 goals and 18 assists this season and has won 63 draw controls. The attacker has 12 games with three points or more and is on a 33-game point and goal streak, breaking the Michigan record of 32 consecutive games with a goal. Smith became the Michigan career points leader on a goal in the fourth quarter against Ohio State, recording seven points (three goals, four assists), all in the second half, to bring her career total to 207. She passed Caitlin Muir, who recorded 203 points from 2018-22. Smith now sits at 225 points and ranks fourth in Michigan history with 181 draw-control wins.
O'Grady, Michigan's second 2025 Tewaaraton Nominee, notches first-team conference honors for the second straight season. The reigning IWLCA and Big Ten Goalie of the Year has won nine games this season, leading the Big Ten and ranking second nationally with a .548 save percentage. O'Grady is the third goalie in program history with more than 300 stops, carrying 332 saves into the postseason to rank third all-time in Michigan annals. She is three wins away from breaking the Michigan career wins record held by Mira Shane (24). O'Grady is the second U-M goalie to win 20 games and owns the Michigan single-season wins record with 14 in 2024.
Class earns Big Ten honors for the first time after a career-best 28 points with 23 goals and five assists in her fifth season with the Wolverines. The graduate-student midfielder added 11 ground balls and 14 draw-control wins to her stat line while recording a career-best seven points against then-No. 5 Maryland. Class went 10-for-17 on free positions and had a .647 shots-on-goal percentage.
Callahan notched her first All-Big Ten first-team honor and second conference nod after anchoring the U-M backline. The junior defender leads the Wolverines with 23 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Callahan has been an integral part of the Michigan defense, which ranks sixth nationally in scoring defense as it gives up just 8.60 goals per game -- with Callahan ranking seventh in the Big Ten with her 23 caused turnovers.
Burke was named All-Big Ten second team and to the all-freshman team as she led the Michigan draw-control unit in her first season. The Glenview, Ill., native is the second Wolverine in program history to tally 100 career draw controls in a season with 108 and ranks seventh all-time in career draw-control wins at Michigan. Burke ranks third in the Big Ten and is one of five players in the conference with 100-plus draw-control wins. She also ranks 20th nationally with 7.36 draw control wins per game. Burke set the U-M single-game draw-control record with 17 against Eastern Michigan and has tallied four games with double-digit draw wins and 10 games with four or more draw control wins.
Dyer captured her second conference honor as she ranks second on the squad in points (61). The senior attacker scored 38 goals and has 23 assists, leading the Wolverines in helpers. The Elkins Park, Pa., native is one of six players in Michigan history to score 100 career goals, with 119 in her four years of action. Dyer is just three assists away from tying the single-season record, 26, set by Caroline Davis in 2024.
Schwabe garnered her first career Big Ten honor after she recorded 36 points with 19 goals and 17 assists in her senior season. The midfielder added 15 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and one draw control to her stat line. Schwabe is one of nine Michigan players to record 100 career points, totaling 114 in her four seasons.
Byrd appeared in 13 games in her freshman season and recorded 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists). She registered at least one point in her first nine career games, including four against then-No. 12 Penn to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Byrd added four ground balls and three caused turnovers and carried a .760 shots-on-goal percentage.
Senior Megan Minturn was honored as Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner after appearing in nine games (eight starts) and had five ground balls and three caused turnovers on defense.
The honorees and the rest of the Michigan squad earned the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will take on No. 6 seed USC on Wednesday (April 23) at 6 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup.
