
Seventeen Wolverines Selected for NCAA East First Round

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seventeen Wolverines will represent the University of Michigan men's track and field team at the NCAA East First Round hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 28-31.
The Maize and Blue tied for 11th at the Big Ten Championships last weekend, the first year the meet was held in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field.
Caleb Jarema earned silver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to improve upon his third-place finish at the 2024 Championships, finishing with a time of 8:42.53.
In the shot put, Josh Huisman finished fifth in his Big Ten Outdoor Championship debut. The freshman threw for a personal-best 18.88 meters (61 feet, 11.5 inches), the No. 5 mark on Michigan's program performers list. Aiden Felty also competed in the shot put, finishing 11th with a season-best mark of 18.13m (59-5.75).
Trent McFarland (3:53.82) and Brendan Herger (3:54.21) finished 4-5 in the 1,500-meter run, with McFarland being just 0.64 seconds behind winner Adam Spencer of Wisconsin.
A pair of Wolverines set personal-best times in the 5,000-meter run to crack the top 10 of the program performers list. Nolan Clark placed 12th with a time of 13:43.57, while Luke Venhuizen placed 15th with a time of 13:48.38 to come in at No. 6 and No. 8 on the program performers list, respectively.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Amit Rutman, Krish Gupta, Jacob Koerner and Corey Royster finished seventh with a time of 39.87 seconds to break a 47-year-old record by 0.05 seconds.
For each individual event contested at each of the first-round sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event, the top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition. Combined events (heptathlon and decathlon) are not contested at the first-round sites. For combined events, the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the NCAA Championships.
Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each first-round site. The 2024 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships will be hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field.
