ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Gabrielle Prych scored in the 78th minute while Sophie Homan tallied her fourth straight game with at least four saves, but the University of Michigan women's soccer team fell to Western Michigan, 2-1, on Sunday (Aug. 31) afternoon at U-M Soccer Stadium.

The Wolverines (2-4) trailed for the majority of the physical matchup after conceding two goals five minutes apart in the eighth and 13th minutes. Despite the early deficit, U-M's offense continually applied pressure by drawing 11 corner kicks, the most by a Michigan squad since 2021.

The Maize and Blue saw contributions from 22 of 29 student-athletes on the roster, including a team-high 90 minutes from junior midfielder Lilley Bosley, who logged her first two shots of the campaign in the loss.

The fresh legs proved vital down the stretch as U-M outshot the Broncos (2-2) 10-3 in the final 45 minutes as part of a 15-9 edge on the day. Though just five of those shots were on target, three came in the final 20 minutes as part of a furious Michigan comeback attempt.

After Kali Burrell entered in the 68th minute, she peppered two quick shots on goal. The latter was sent away by the Western Michigan keeper directly to the right foot of Prych, who halved the Broncos' advantage with her fourth goal of the season.

The high-tempo Michigan offense continued to pin the visitors in their own half, drawing three fouls, two corners and a Western Michigan yellow card in the final 10 minutes. Even with ample opportunity, the Wolverines could not net the equalizer or put another shot on goal in their penultimate regular-season matchup.

Michigan returns to the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 7) to face Youngstown State at 1 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines will host their annual Pups at the Pitch game, held in partnership with Pet Supplies Plus.
