RALEIGH, N.C. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team opened dual match play with a 4-1 setback at No. 9 NC State on Monday (Jan. 19) at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
No. 7-ranked Max Dahlin earned Michigan's lone point of the match, posting a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ainius Sabaliauskas. Dahlin and doubles partner Bjorn Swenson, also ranked No. 7 nationally, held a 5-4 advantage at No. 1 doubles before the match was halted.
The Wolfpack claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take an early 1-0 lead. Dahlin evened the score with his singles victory, but NC State responded with three consecutive singles wins to secure the match. Bjorn Swenson, Nicholas Steiglehner and Mert Oral recorded singles setbacks for the Wolverines.
Michigan will continue dual season action this weekend at the ITA Kick-Off event on the campus of the University of Virginia. The Wolverines will face Cornell in the opening match on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 2 p.m.
