HOUSTON, Texas -- The University of Michigan softball team bounced back with a run-rule shutout in its Houston-HCU Invitational finale, rolling to a 9-0, five-inning win over Lafayette on Sunday morning (Feb. 15) at Houston's Cougar Softball Stadium.
Junior RHP Erin Hoehn (2-1) tossed a one-hit shutout against the Leopards with a pair of walks and 10 strikeouts. It was her second complete-game effort of the season and her second double-digit strikeout game -- one shy of her career best.
Hoehn also reached base twice and drove in a fourth-inning tally to help her cause, but it was junior outfielder Jenissa Conway and sophomore outfielder Lauren Putz who again paced the Wolverines' offense from the top of the lineup. The duo combined for five hits, including a homer apiece, with five runs scored and five RBI.
Michigan manufactured three runs in the first inning with a sac fly and groundout in addition to junior outfielder Ella Stephenson's RBI double to the right center gap -- her fourth extra-base hit and fifth RBI in three games.
Conway homered to centerfield in the second to tack on two more Michigan runs, and Putz ended the game early with her long ball -- a three-run shot to rightfield in the fifth.
Putz, who boasted five homers over the last three games, owns nine homers already this season, while Conway owns five on the season after homering in each of the last three games. The duo led Michigan's home-run hitters last season, and through just 10 games, are nearly halfway (14) to their 2025 combined total (32).
Michigan (8-2) will head west next weekend for a five-game slate at the Sun Devil Classic in Tempe, Ariz. U-M will open against New Mexico State at 10 a.m. MT on Friday (Feb. 20) before facing host Arizona State and Southern Utah in two games apiece.
