ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's soccer head coach Chaka Daley announced the addition of Kevin Anderson to the staff as associate head coach Tuesday (Feb. 17).
Anderson joins the Wolverines after three seasons as the head coach at Southern Connecticut State, where he led the Owls to three straight conference tournament appearances.
"We are delighted to welcome Coach Anderson and his family to Ann Arbor," Daley said. "Our men's soccer program will grow exponentially in every way as a result of his experience, professionalism and ambition to compete for championships. Coach Anderson will push our staff and program to another level."
Prior to joining SCSU, Anderson served as the head coach at Columbia for 14 seasons, where he guided the Lions to the winningest season in program history with 13 victories in 2015. In 2016, Anderson coached the Lions to their first at-large NCAA Tournament bid in 23 years.
Anderson also enjoyed a successful career as an assistant coach, including back-to-back Division II national championships with Southern Connecticut in 1998 and 1999. He also served as an assistant at Columbia and Boston College, where he was named to College Soccer News' Top 20 Assistant Coaches list. While at BC, Anderson helped the Eagles to their first ACC regular-season and tournament titles in school history and the No. 1 overall seed.
"I am honored to join the coaching staff at the University of Michigan and contribute to this prestigious institution, department and program," Anderson said. "I am grateful to Lisa Savoury, Coach Daley and everyone who made this possible. I'm here to help. Go Blue!"
As a student-athlete and professional soccer player, Anderson was a standout, earning First-Team All-America honors and capturing the national championship with Southern Connecticut in 1992. Following his collegiate career, Anderson joined the Long Island Rough Riders from 1993-97 and won a USISL national championship in 1995.
Anderson went on to play for the Minnesota Thunder in the USL in 1997 and was named one of the league's Best XI players. He was selected No. 1 in the MLS Supplemental Draft by the Colorado Rapids in 1998 and later played for the Tampa Bay Mutiny. Anderson concluded his career with the Charleston Battery and Thunder, winning a league championship at each stop.
Anderson is joined by his wife, Sara, and his two daughters, Lennon (20) and Harper (17).
